Tips on becoming a substance abuse counselor on NC

xanderiley: The state should have certification information somewhere -- hit up google.
Find substance abuse counselors, ask to talk to them about their experience. Buy 'em lunch somewhere decent, since they're doing this on their time. Ask direct questions, be prepared for direct answers.
I would not skip googling for answers before meeting anyone. People realize when you haven't done your homework. If they see you're informed, intelligent and willing to commit, you may gain an ally or mentor.
