Can our thoughts kill us? (Page 2)

Ms_Mafdet_The Great
Ms_Mafdet_The Great: And just 4 the heck of it, a mind experiment that was allegedly originally made by this man, Charles Baudouin (Charles Baldwin) in the 1920's.

Whether it is true or not, is beside the point - if the experiment does work, that should suffice as evidence for brain power. (I have not done this experiment myself, yet)

At any rate..

Zanjan: I'm not sure we always have to know the mechanics of how something works - we want to know if the knowledge is useful for something. Is there a practical application?

While we can kill ourselves with our thoughts, we cant kill others with them. The froggie incident isn't a scientific study, but this is how Voodoo, curses and casting of spells goes - ego claims credit for something the person had nothing to do with.

I can stop a watch with my thoughts BUT I have to be holding it in my hand. I can dowse for water, BUT I have to be holding a forked tool in both hands. No mystery for either, there's a scientific explanation for both.

In truth, I'm not the cause but my thoughts prepare a suitable environment for the process to take place. In other words, I'm like the farmer who plants a seed and it grows - I didn't create the seed or soil, sun or water.....but I can bring them all to the seed as it requires.

As for the pencil on a string - ha, we used to do that over a single woman's wrist at parties to predict how many children she would have and what their genders would be. Always worked when I did it. You know why? Because the person holding the string is unwittingly making imperceptible tiny movements that influence the swing until it gains momentum.

I mean, that's fine - our subconscious knows more than it will convey to the conscious level. Yet this didn't satisfy me. Improve the experiment by tying the string to a stable object, like a lampshade or sawhorse, making no physical contact.

You'll see that's much, much more difficult to do yet that's the ultimate test of mind over matter. Yes, I found it was possible to move it, but only slightly. Maybe my will power was tired by the time I got my answer.

Zanjan: Doctors always lie about how much it will hurt so I never believe them. The side effects are real, problem is the doctors don't believe us. The truth is the doctors don't know what's causing the side effects - - it's not the nocebo, it's something else in the environment.

I have first hand experience with this..........not with blind studies using pills but with medications and diagnosis. I think one should use a different type of 'belief' experiment because everybody gets sick sooner or later from something, and they get well again.

Comandante FiLTH:
Cool post. I read on it prior and I do not think it is thoughts but more activities in the brain.

Thought:
1. an idea or opinion produced by thinking, or occurring suddenly in the mind.
2.the action or process of thinking.

I believe that there are many processes in the mind and thought would be one that we can control. The 'death by heartbreak' might be a response to stress and perhaps other factors. Example a person place him/herself in a depress state and stop sleeping/eating, this will have physical effects.

Most Valuable Player: Love birds are called that because they stay with the one partner for life, it is known that if one dies the other will die shorty within days or weeks later, grief can kill people aswell, for example if a really old mans wife dies, if he has loved her for ever sometimes they die weeks later, so can a thought kill you? well it may do, a little example, lol a silly one that may work on the same principle, in a car racing video game, a person playing it can be kicking ass and taking control, but if you keep saying to them, your gonna crash your gonna crash, LOL they do,

Zanjan: My dad was killed by his thoughts. Mom and dad never had a good marriage; they were always fighting. So, when mom died first, I was quite confident dad would carry on as usual. A year after her death, his drivers license was taken away because he was 92 years old, despite never having had an accident in 75 years of driving.

Well, he drove anyway. I don't know what he was thinking when he went through that stop sign but must have been important because that accident killed him. I can only conclude my termagant mother, from the hereafter, had ordered him to come here right now! Seriously.
