Robots will take over the world!

LiptonCambell
LiptonCambell: Well, not really- but the point is, we're going to see a huge increase in automation in industries that didn't exist before, and this video argues, will leave alot of people left without jobs with skills that have no value if you're a person...

For example- the transportation industry. 1/3 of the costs in the transportation industry is employees- as technology and computers get cheaper and cheaper, and seeing as we're already on the cusp of having cars that drive themselves, millions of people will lose their jobs. This will absolutely change the nature of our society.

Corwin: I read an article where it was suggested that in 50 years time Humans may no longer be the dominant species on this planet anymore... but rather artificial intelligence.

And that it may be in our best interests to insure that they hold us in the best regards... if their intelligence eventually far exceeds our own it is not entirely implausible that they may begin to see us as a dangerous annoyance... or even worse, an infestation.

ghostgeek: With automation humans will come into their own. We will be the absolutely essential component the economy will not be able to do without. Without us there will be no need to manufacture all the crud that gets produced. Machines would have nothing to do but walk themselves to the scrapheap. Only by producing junk for humans will machines ensure their own survival.
