ghostgeek: Portentous music doesn't make it so. What I find amusing about all these conspiracy theories is how they can conflict. For example, some people say NASA faked the moon landings and has been covering up the fact ever since. Other people say something very different; that the Americans landed on the moon, saw aliens there and have been covering this up. Well, both groups can't be right but they can both be wrong.

fromeveryangle: my view is life is sustainable in any environment they brought some back from the space station. life is a pliable constitute, of the fabric and the reverberation of sound into form/matter. form is the frequencies which provokes substances in compliance order to standing form. from synchronic order. the beat /rythme being the absolute normality of pattern and interference. in our case/environment a fermenting permeating and solidifying/ calicification a alchemic interaction with in the vac pressured ,that expanse and eventually dissolves back into the reverberation. this is a miracle we know as earth it is in reality, hypothetically a dust spec within a alchemical state exchange/thermal of water producing gaseous vacuum, and is in the congealed cosmic dance within our local galaxy. the cymatics of the absolute whole. space is in electrolysis emerged in a critique constitution of water or hydrogen and oxygen, and decay gasses,no pressure,no form, although a course, so we see flow expansion, dissipation. the space dweller or stellar being are electro magnetic membranes which actually harvest the earths electro magnetic currents, which stabilize the seismic activity across this globe, but i have noticed since the array antenna system that they are hunted, targeted by our military resources and the average person would know nothing of their existence to this earth... a being that is essential to making stars........

LiptonCambell: We don't know.

That is the only appropriate answer. We could be the only planet with life, we might be one of billions.

We don't know.

The only way to formulate probability is by using what we do know. And what we do know is EVERY SINGLE CORNER of the universe we've looked is so violently against life as we know it, that it will tear your atoms apart, or boil your flesh, or freeze you completely, or crush you under immense pressure. These facts you cannot deny- so far, aside from Earth, 100% of the universe is so against life that we need extreme protections just to survive brief stints out there.

You may argue "We aren't looking hard enough"-but that logic be applied to numerous things, and if we allow that lapse in judgement, we have to only permit it elsewhere, or else be hypocrits. So if the universe contains life, and we aren't just looking hard enough, then the oceans contain mermaids, and we aren't looking hard enough- the skies contain dragons, and we aren't looking hard enough- our houses contain little people who live between the drywall, and feast on our boogers and armpit hair when we sleep, and we simply aren't looking hard enough for it.

If you allow one, you gotta allow them all.

Not to mention, the fermi paradox- if a Earth like species sent out one ship, and only one ship, every 1000 years, and it took another 1000 years to get where they were going- they would colonize the entire Galaxy, 100% of the stars, in a few million years. And given the universe is 14 billion years, or 1,400 million years, this begs the question;

Where are they? Why can't we find the most basic example of their existence?

Corwin: Radio signals.
Assuming that a technologically advanced intelligent species will broadcast messages and information using radio signals like we do, we should be able to detect these at least within our own galaxy, which spans about 100,000 light years.
The SETI Project (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) has been pointing radio telescope dishes at the sky for many decades now listening for radio signals that are not natural in origin, and have picked up nothing.

Oxygen.
If we were going to detect what would be at least non-intelligent life on one of the thousands of exo-planets we have been discovering lately, all we would need is a single pixel of visible data from that planet to spectrally analyze the composition of it's atmosphere... if the spectral lines show oxygen, there's most likely life there - we know of no other mechanism that enriches a planet's atmosphere with oxygen other than biology.
We haven't found this yet either, but we are only now developing the telescope technology to be able to do so. Stay tuned.

Corwin: Oh... I suppose we should be telling Captain Kirk to scan all of the "sub-space" frequencies as well...
... oh... except those only exist on Star Trek.

If you have an alternative range of energy frequencies that we should be paying attention to, that exist outside of the known electromagnetic spectrum, I'm sure the scientific community would be eager to learn about them.

Typically, we like to pay extra close attention in the frequency range that is known as the Hydrogen Band, which is the frequency range that is almost completely free of all of the background radio-noise that the universe creates naturally, and is not hindered by all of the cosmic dust and debris. If an intelligent species wanted to send a message, that would be the best frequency to ensure that it would be heard.

Tompo32: there could be radio signals heading our way as we speak the problem is how far them signals have to go, if they are sent from inside the milkyway say 20,000 ly its gona take 20,000 years to reach earth so even if we do get the signal who ever sent them may not even exist any more...
