LiptonCambell: huh?

The problem with Y2K, as I understand it, is that when designing programs with dates, to save data, programmers would use 2 digits rather than 4 for the year(Ie June 1996 would appear as 0696)- but when we reached the millennium, the computers would no longer calculate it right, and believe it was the year 1900, rather than the year 2000, and thus the dating system would be utter madness...

Corwin: And to sweeten the pot a little, I'll add my own imaginary soul, and a pair of tickets to the 2007 Superbowl, right on the 50 yard line... it's between the New England Patriots and New York Giants... should be one helluva game.

jimeeze1: I surfed wire club a few years ago and this thread came up.....here it is years later in 2014 and review the site only to find that peeps quit talking about the end of the world in 2012,,,,,,how funny ......I just got back on.....I wonder how long they talked bout what was going to happen because the last covo is a guy wondering what will happen....I bet all the peeps that thought the world was ending feel ridiculous... scientist were just warning peeps of the possibility that some anomaly might occur....not once did I hear a scientist say the world was coming to and end!

lori100: A square hole in the sun.......an alien door?.....If more holes appear , it would really be the end.....--------------------NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recently spotted something peculiar on the Sun: a square hole. There are high-speed solar winds shooting out of this area, and the lack of material makes the UV image look dark in comparison to surrounding areas. This hole was spotted in a video that that collected data from May 5-7.

The SDO’s description on the YouTube video reads: Inside the coronal hole you can see bright loops where the hot plasma outlines little pieces of the solar magnetic field sticking above the surface. Because it is positioned so far south on the Sun, there is less chance that the solar wind stream will impact us here on Earth.”

Researchers still aren’t sure what causes these coronal holes, but they are related to the fluctuations in the solar cycle when the magnetic poles reverse.

Corwin: Well, that much is true... the Sun's complex maelstrom of magnetic fields does do a reversal every 22 years like clockwork, and is responsible for the Sun's 11 year peaks of solar-flare activity.

But only crazy people think that sunspots are alien stargates.

The world will end in 2012 !! Keep your eyes out for it.

Corwin: I'm not ridiculing it... I'm just pointing out that it's an ordinary occurrence that happens on a regular basis... you were making it out to be some kind of unheard of catastrophe.

And it's not a "hole" in the Sun... it's a Sun-spot... these are also common. So what if it's squarish in shape. Are you some kind of expert in solar-flare dynamics to say that this sort of thing can't happen naturally, and doesn't happen often?

Corwin: Yeah yeah.... a "coronal hole"... another word for "really big sunspot"... potato-tomato.

Here... this one looks like Big Bird from Sesame Street... maybe the Pleiadians are sending us a message that Big Bird is the new Galactic Overlord.

lori100: sun spots are different, it's not a sun spot

Corwin: It's basically the same frickin' thing Lori, except a sun-spot forms in the center of the magnetic lines, and a coronal-hole forms along the outside of the magnetic lines, which is why they are bigger, and oddly shaped (which is why they could be square, or shaped like Big Bird)... and coronal-holes aren't typically responsible for mass-ejections... which means that they really aren't any big deal.

But it's not a "hole" per say (that's just a nick-name they give it)... it's still just an area on the surface of the sun's atmosphere that appears darker because it's cooler than the surrounding hotter surface.
So.... they are literally just "spots"... not "holes".

Why don't you actually study up on the Science behind this? Go learn something.
