2012 end of world??? (Page 2) Mickieo25: It is already proven untrue. It is in a book by Dr Karl from Australia. The Mayans themselves have predictions that out date the 2012 thing, it is just another cycle in their calendar, which operates in units of 12. I think the book is Science is Golden by Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, surly there will be other peer-reviewed material to be found. xapim: this is defenently not true, 1980's a planet x , now rotates into our solar system from a second solar system to nearly hitting earth and and then rotating back from same pattern it came from til' back 3600 years from now.., so starting in august or september we're suppose to see this planet bigger then jupitor until about august - sept. 2014 ??? i'm not fallen' duncan124: I thought it was a myth, but meant to say there was a good chance of the earth being hit by an asteroid and by 2012 there would not be enough good land left to survive the effects of the impact. LiptonCambell: Q: Could phenomena occur where planets align in a way that impacts Earth? A: There are no planetary alignments in the next few decades, Earth will not cross the galactic plane in 2012, and even if these alignments were to occur, their effects on the Earth would be negligible. Each December the Earth and sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence. ~NASA, http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html Sounds like someones blowing smoke up your ass, smoke..... However, if you're interested in planetary alignment, which is actually called "conjunction", it seems that Jupiter and Saturn, which orbit at dramaitically different speeds and often takes hundreds of years before they're anywhere near each other, are expected to have a great conjunction....in the year 7541. So don't wait up... smoke4ever: no ones blowing smoke up my ass. I just heard it occasionally while researching the dec. 2012 myth. LiptonCambell: Well, there are alot of conjunctions, according to wikipedia, but like I said, the whoopers- Saturn and Jupiter- won't be "aligning" for a long time, and I see no mention of anything more major than that... StuckInTheSixties: Nothing pertaining to planetary alignments matters. The planets are much too distant for their gravity to have any appreciable effect. | Science Chat Room 4 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
