Why is racism still in existence (Page 3)

andrew60
andrew60: It's not racism that is the problem, it's the belief, faith {religon} if you will that sets us apart and divides us as a nation and world. It's when we encounter someone of a different religon, a barrier forms and we see them as not the same as us. If we all had the same culture, we wouldn't have the wars and turmoil we have now.

StuckInTheSixties: "It's not racism that is the problem, it's the belief, faith {religon} if you will that sets us apart and divides us as a nation and world."

That's a novel theory. It's also nonsense. By that rational, regardless of race, any people sharing the same religion, or sharing a lack of it, would get along, and no racial tensions would ever exist in that context. I strongly doubt you could document that.

For instance, the Ku Klux Klan are often Baptists. So are the black people they despise so much.

"It's when we encounter someone of a different religon, a barrier forms and we see them as not the same as us."

That's often true, but it's not the premise of this thread.

"If we all had the same culture, we wouldn't have the wars and turmoil we have now."

That might, or might not be true, but I doubt it. People will always find something to squabble about. Much of it is simply territorial. Or a struggle for available resources.

StuckInTheSixties: I've long wondered why it was here too. Racism isn't really a S&T subject. Sociological subject. Politics is probably the best available Forum for it here. Some of the posts here have attempted to take a scientific slant on it, with varying levels of success.

the real slim DEEPy
the real slim DEEPy: racism still exists because of trust issues and cultural issues, topped with a healthy protion of ignorance. It is one thing to remember the past, and another to still live in the past- the differrence is forgiveness.

Multiculturalism is not the cure, balance and moderation is the cure. Multiculturalism was invented to give minorities pride, but it has created a divide between races, along cultural lines. one must learn to embrace their own culture, but not get lost in it- to create a balance between their culture and those of others. Human rights violations among other people groups are hard to ignore, but no reason to resent a race, for this is purely cultural, and not genetic. Learn to accept or tolerate what is differrent, as long as it is respefctful of the rights of others, and learn to befriend and encourage respect, rather than to judge and to hate.

Venemous1: Cause a lot of people (black and white) cling to the ideal that they are each hated by the other. So they drag it on and on and on. I think alot of it comes from resentment too on behalf of the black people. Still pissed off about the past. Not that it's not for good reason....but yeah.

StallionKeith: Racism is in existence because there are different races and each race will always think that theirs is the superior culture. Simple as that......

dave3974: there are some great cultural differences and many of these can obviously be attributed to different races , which cause friction.
there are also some great myths which people like to perpetuate like islam o phobia , the jewish conspiiracy , criminal behaviour from some groups etc

11Xbadalice: Racism? Why should people be required to like other people based on skin color? It's not about skin color after all, it's about culture associated with skin color. There are many cultures I find ugly distastefull, and stupid. Skin color is a nice way to profile ugly cultures. Simple.

HardcoreHerbivore: When the mind becomes overwhelmed by anger it seeks a target;a way to vent or release. It is a symptom of emotional frustration.
When we feel inferior we seek a way to feel superior to others, physical appearance, moral codes wealth, intelligence etc.
I believe racists should be looked upon as people suffering from mental illness.
Most of us have acted or at least formed thoughts from ignorance. To hate racists is to become infected from their illness.Just because it is socially acceptable to look down on them doesn`t mean that it isn`t detrimental to our mental heath..
