Explosions on Mars, explosions on Earth! Do you believe either?

The whereabouts of the comet if it did not disintegrate near Mars.

And if its not there it is behaving very strangely for a comet; so was it a comet at all??

!!!!! I TOLD YOU SO !!!!!

" MARTIAN METEOR SHOWER: Yesterday, NASA held a press conference to discuss what happened when Comet Siding Springs buzzed Mars on Oct. 19, 2014. An international fleet of Mars orbiters observed the encounter using a variety of cameras, radars, and other sensors. Among many findings, the highlight was a "spectacular meteor shower" detected by NASA's MAVEN spacecraft. MAVEN did not actually see streaks of light in the Martian atmosphere--the spacecraft was sheltering behind the body of Mars during the comet's flyby. But when MAVEN emerged, it found a glowing layer of Mg+ (a constituent of meteor smoke) floating 150 km above the planet's surface:" spaceweather

Pie in the Sky!

NASA has reported more information from Mars.

Clearly the comet impacted on Mars.

" MAVEN's Neutral Gas and Ion Mass Spectrometer detected eight different types of metal ions, including sodium, magnesium and iron...."

" The remote-sensing Imaging Ultraviolet Spectrograph observed intense ultraviolet emissions from magnesium and iron ions high in the atmosphere after the meteor shower...."

"The emission was so strong that it dominated the ultraviolet spectrum for several hours after the comet had passed by before dissipating over the next two days. Maven also sampled some of the comet dust directly, showing eight different types of metal ions, including sodium, magnesium and iron present in the dust samples."

"Nasa's MRO...also observed ...which showed the cometary nucleus to be smaller then expected...images reveal the nucleus has a rotation of eight hours...."

"...European Space Agency's Mars Express...detected a huge increase in density of electrons after closest approach. A few hours after, there was a huge jump in the electron density in the ionosphere, at a lower altitude then usual..."Spaceflight Insider

Information from NASA can be found here.

NASA is known to have spent some time repairing its Mars spacecraft and has done well considering how badly damaged they were. This fact also explains the lack of images from Mars, as the damaged cameras could not be remotely repaired.

But the lack of sightings of Comet Siding Spring must mean that it crashed in to Mars just as the many comets have been seen to do.

Corwin: You do know that the tails of comets and the debris that comets eject are responsible for meteor showers? Why does a meteor shower happening while a comet makes a close approach have to mean that it impacted onto the surface?

What are these other many comets that we have seen crash into Mars? Any links you can provide?

duncan124:
Follow the links to NASA and you will see it is the first comet studied that has come close to a planet NASA is claiming. ---so your assumptions are crap.

No one has said the comet reached the surface,--that's another of your Internet actions.

Clearly if the comet arrived at Mars and has not been seen again, in all reason, it must still be there.

The decrease in size witnessed by several observers, see posts above, indicate that the comet has disintegrated near Mars.

In fact Comets with rotations of hours are far less stable then ones with slower rotations Scientists have claimed.

Corwin: So, first you said "Clearly the comet impacted on Mars."

Then you say "No one has said the comet reached the surface."

Of course Mars is covered with craters, but most of those happened in the very distant past.
I enjoyed that link about the small asteroid, interesting stuff... although small asteroids are not comets.

I'm really not trying to be negative, Duncan... I'm just trying to make sense out of all this. What exactly is it that you are implying here?

Oh a wet blanket! That's not negative is it?

The comet does not have to survive to the ground to have impacted on Mars!

Even NASA was expecting to see an impressive meteorite shower,---and meteorites are known to reach the ground.

The point is the comet caused an "intense" reaction in the atmosphere " after causing the meteor shower. The the comet was seen no more. What do you think happened???

What is interesting is that NASA still has problems talking about things impacting from space.

Probably due to the US nuclear missile development program which has already looked in to what was causing missiles to fail and what was going on in the upper atmosphere but was a separate program to NASA.

...and as discussed above and elsewhere due to politicians like Regolith Tusk who were arms traders because of the ' hidden ' missile program.

In fact NASA and meteorites have an uneasy relationship.

http://www.ticotimes.net/2014/09/08/nasa-questions-nicaraguas-claim-that-meteorite-caused-massive-weekend-explosion

There was a great deal of science conducted in the early 1980s as Earth passed through a trail of dust and rock. This in the film/doc-u-drama " University Guns ".

Nearly all of the science was destroyed and those involved signed to say they had no records from those experiments.
