ghostgeek: I guess the fact that Lucifer is a latin name suggests some early Christian scribes, writing in the language used by the Church, wanted the story to be about a fallen angel. And why not? It's got Hollywood written all over it.

Zanjan: The name is actually "helel" or "Heyel"..........kind of rin gs a bell, eh? It translates with the same meaning though, as "light-bringer (bringing)" or "morning star" (Lucifer), associated with the planet Venus. Lots of symbolism because people were visual learners.

People don't even know what real angels are - they're "bearers of something, usually of help" - could be a person, could be a saint, could be the soul of one in the hereafter, could be an object or force of energy, or even just a lesson of experience.

The first mention of "Satan" was during the Babylonian exile as a revision to Jewish history.
1 Chronicles 21: 1........and then again in the Book of Job, which was post exile, with another description of the same thing. That's where the archetypical behaviour got fuzzy.

ghostgeek: It just shows the danger of leaving things to the imagination.

Just finished watching the latest video cover of "Moby Dick' (William Hurt, appropriately, as Captain Ahab). Oddly, the real story was more terrifying, involving the people, not the whale.

Zanjan: People, people! That hand signal is Hawaiian, meaning "Hang Loose". ( I wonder how much of that was photoshopped)

However, this is hardly original - the mosaic tile floors of the excavated Roman mansions and temple at ancient Sepphoris in Israel at Galilee, sport the same hand signal. Undoubtedly, it meant something else.

See on my wall ( from early last yr) pics of Satanic Baphomet image on Prince William's flight suit, and the same image on Bush Sr.'s hat......just another freaky coincidence of course......
