Why Bother Trying to 'Convert' When It Is Personal? (Page 4)

ghostgeek: Where you been wolf, long time no see? Have you been to the woods recently? I bet you have. Yes, I'm sure you've been a naughty boy with the fillies. Well, my old whiskery friend, don't overdo it. You ain't getting any younger, you know. Oh, and to answer your question, I tend to stay away from draughty old houses when I go haunting. Chills aren't good for us ghosts you see.

chay chayi: The Quran is not the first to speak about finger prints, that everyone has a different finger print, the Kabalah written about 2,000 years ago wrote about it, and even more, that all the lines of the skin shows everything about that person, the way how they are, how many, and the Quran took it from Kabalah, like everything he took from previous books

So Kabalah is a Jewish book, made by Jewish Rabbis, and they are the first to talk about finger prints, and not only about that that they are different, but also that its because of the inner soul that its instincts and nature, and not only of the fingers, but the whole last part of the hand, and the forehead

pyroclastic flo: addressing the question offered in the OP ...

i imagine (tho i can't say for sure) that people aggressively intrude into the spiritual lives of others, seek to convert as many people as possible to their collective, because they believe in the argumentum ad populum fallacy. the more people believing as they do means that they're right and the minority is wrong. the will of the biggest collective = God's will. the might makes right(eous) assumption.

it's bull but we humans are often rather stupid in our vanities.

Zanjan: Chay, the history of glassmaking can be traced back to 3500 BCE in Mesopotamia. No doubt the second person who left a fingerprint on glass said 'hey..........!" The history of palm reading is 4000 years old.

I think the Kaballah was a little slow to catch up to speed.

Pyro, if people aggressively intrude into the spiritual lives of others, I'd say the 'others' haven't learned how to turn them away. They've sent up a flag, that says "yoohoo, I'm a weenie who knows nothing about religion"

I love it when the door-knocker tries to convert me........that expression on their face as their eyes flick back and forth, looking for way to quickly leave gracefully, is wonderful! ~Sigh~ I wish they'd stay longer.

pffft! you don't have to be flying any flags for some arrogant religious proselytizer to come up and harass you. you can be minding your own business and suddenly have some fundy in your face or at your door spewing dire warnings of damnation.

it's weird how you often seem to put the responsibility for the behaviors of aggressive religious people on those they harass and oppress. religious people need to learn to mind their own frigging business.

It's weird how people don't know how to discourage that sort of behaviour. You know, it's like parking your car in Harlem without locking it.

i live down the end of a 1/4 mile long drive way with three (3) no trespassing signs one must ignore to make it to my house uninvited and yet arrogant religious proselytizers still knock on my door. i guess they assume they'll be forgiven their trespasses. a true enough assumption, i suppose, since i haven't shot at any of them yet.

but rural living aside ... if i just happen to be standing on the street of Anycity USA and an arrogant religious proselytizer comes up to harass me what should i have done to discourage their initial approach? wear a t-shirt with "I PUNCH RELIGIOUS IDIOTS IN THE FACE" emblazoned on it?

Zanjan: "yet arrogant religious proselytizers still knock on my door."

My clients are developmentally delayed, and they also complained. I put a "No Solicitors" sign on their door - that permanently solved the problem.

When my clients are out in public, they have staff walking beside them - staff dispatches proselytizers quickly. To be fair, they have an advantage over you - they've been trained.

I would suggest you put a gate at the end of your driveway. If there's still a problem, what people here, in the countryside, do is use a steel bar barrier with a lock to prevent vehicles from entering.

If you wore such a T-Shirt where I live, you'd be arrested for making a verbal threat - it's another kind of assault, similar to racism. Humans are quite resourceful; if you thought about it for awhile, I'm sure you could be more innovative than that.

In town, I see that people put up signs saying "Beware of Vicious Dog" - not sure how effective that is, considering people can see into the yard. Perhaps you could wear that kind of T-shirt and see what sort of results you get.

Personally, I have a bigger concern with telephone solicitors, particularly on my cell phone since I pay for their call. I have an answering machine hooked to the land line but there's no such contraption for my cell phone unless I turn it off.

pyroclastic flo: lol so i have to install expensive steel gates and keep them locked in order to keep religious morons off my property or it's my fault the religious morons ignore the three (3) no trespassing signs and harass me?

iow, you've backed yourself into another idiot corner and you're doing the Zan blather dance again and some more.

but come to think of it, maybe you're right that i'm being too tolerant and not pro-active enough warding off rude presumptuous religious fundies. it would be so much easier and nicer if religious folks would simply mind their own business but i guess i should just start shooting the unctuous imbeciles since i live in Floriduh where shooting trespassers (and just about anyone who annoys you) is legal. a few bullets is a lot cheaper than a steel gate. thanks for the advise.

pyroclastic flo: lol i'm not paranoid, Zan. i'm just considering a more pro-active approach to the rude religious proselytizer problem. if common courtesy is too far outside their ken maybe some rock salt in their pious asses would encourage some politeness..

pyroclastic flo: i asked you what that way may be 8 posts up and your solution was that i should buy a steel gate and keep it locked because three (3) no trespassing signs aren't enough to keep the rude religious proselytizers away from my door. i already thanked you for your advise, however flawed. if not even a martyred set of butt cheeks, stinging with rock salt, can keep a determined Stalker for the Lord at bay why waste money on steel gates over which they can climb?

and it irritates me that rude religious proselytizers cause me to be rude in reaction to their rudeness. but ya know what's weird? they don't seem to notice. they're so blinded by their holy ambitions and numb to the feelings of the people they accost they don't even seem to hear you. they just blather on and on like they can't help themselves. it's kind of creepy, really.

they should consider themselves blessed that they get to leave my land w/ their sanctimonious butts intact. i'm well within my rights to shoot trespassers on my POSTED PRIVATE PROPERTY.

and that's the point, you smarmy deliberately obtuse sophist. PRIVACY. the rude presumptuous religious idiots you defend (because you are one) have no sense of common courtesy or respect for individual privacy. i shouldn't need to say a polite "no thank you" (yet again) or contain my expressions of indignation or even slam the door in their sheep-like faces. they shouldn't be coming up my 1/4 mile long driveway and knocking at my door in the first frigging place.

POSTED. PRIVATE PROPERTY. No Trespassing!

TheismIsUntenable
TheismIsUntenable: The problem with this nonsense about it being personal is that truth isn't up to your opinion.

Truth is reality. You don't get to pretend that multiple realities exist to appease yourself and others. You're simply wrong.

No personal gods exist. Time to wake up.
