Holy Bible smoke4ever: Jesus said, "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John chapter 16 verse 33 (Edited by smoke4ever) deuce916: Did he really. Well, I guess we all better believe what he says without any logical thought involved. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bodmin: Since they refer to them with so much fervour and authority, few Christians seem to be aware that the words attributed to Jesus have been demonstrated by some of our foremost researchers (among them John Dominic Crossan and Lane C. McGaughy) to be inconsistent with how a rabbi would have expressed himself in the time of Jesus. Some of "his words" have even turned out to be later interpolations and therefore cannot have been uttered by him at all. In addition, he (or rather his biographers) has borrowed certain passages from earlier sources. The so-called "Golden Rule" comes in many editions and has a long history in several religions. Before Christianity, it was last taught by the Pharisee Hillel, who lived two generations before Jesus. His version probably stem from "The Book of Tobit". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Golden_Rule Likewise, the phrase starting like this: "In my Father's house are many mansions…" (John 14:2-3), can be traced back to a temple scroll in Old Egypt and according to the text in the following link, also to a work known as "The Book of the Dead": http://www.astrotheology.com/forgery1.html The same source mentions many other Christian propagandists' attempts to tamper with the text in the biblical books and until now, most of them have got away with their crime. But more thorough study methods, like the active use of data bases, computer research and inter-disciplinary cooperation have unmasked some of the old perpetrators or vandals; and more will probably surface in the future, as other clever scholars finish their projects. office: "Thanks for mentionining it"? Then what? Continue to act as if everything that Jesus "said" is absolutely true? Now, wouldn't that be somewhere in the neighbourhood of hypocrisy, I mean, knowing something and claiming the opposite? Dreamflyer: Office, I think maybe Lastofall was adressing Smoke4ever and not Bodmin, but I'm not quite sure... Lucid: smoke4ever if you know the bible so well, tell me one thing...why is there so many passages that contradict each other? deuce916: I read some of the bible but it doesn't have much to do with reality does it. I mean it keeps referring to a god, come on. As if something like that exists. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. CoIin: "why is there so many passages that contradict each other?" It doesn't matter how absurd the contradaction (eg. Jesus being executed on different days - cf Mark/John), the believer will find some ludicrous way to explain it away. Isn't it vastly more likely that one of the "witnesses" is wrong? Or both? When the facts are at odds with my beliefs, the facts had better watch out. bagofBEANs: The classical case of altering the terrain if it doesn't fit with the details on the map. EraseThisFace: <<smoke4ever: by the way, why are people that are antiChrist in this conversation? >> Is this a Christian topic only? iMalice: This is an open conversation where everybody has the right to give their opinions. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 1st Corinthians chapter 15 verses 21-22 (Edited by smoke4ever) Tarynn: Another collection of books with a fantastic content. Some people probably believe that the stories about Harry are absolutely true, too. beloved_azi: hmm...i dont blive the whole bible..cos it contains lots of words of other ppl rather than Jesus (pbuh)..though i respect Jesus(pbuh)..and most of all..Many christians fail to follow their own bible..they dont obey Jesus(peace be upon him) which is too bad..but one think is that whther u all blive it or not pls dont hurt other ppl's bliv by badly mocking at them. beloved_azi: posting opinions and having debate is different..!!!and mocking and laughing at other's faith is different.. beloved_azi: red letter bible has Jesus (pbuh) own words...in which we find those red letter to be very few in that whole encyclopedia..and so i respect those red letters and follow the good ones..but Im not chirstian if worshipping Jesus (pbuh ) is what christians are called as. smoke4ever: Jesus answered Pilate, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."
