flashie: youre projecting candy.

i dont hate myself, or my family or my country or west or democracy at all.

this bandwagon youre accusing me of jumping on is in your imagination.

the west is fine, its got shitty elements or individuals, but so has anything.

its my opinion to address issues in my own garden if you like, it makes more sense to me than turning a blind eye and pointing the finger at other cultures when the same shits going on in my house. if you get my drift.

youre the one generalising. im just pointing out some facts you dont seem to be taking too well.

i dont know exactly why more muslims arent condemning terrorist attacks, maybe you should ask more muslims? maybe they are but it just isnt very newsworthy in our press seeing were at war with muslim countries. i dont know

hard_candy: 'just as 99 percent of atheists dont condone tucson kill sprees'

Maybe SITS can explain this too you a little better and more eloqunently than I. He also probably understands US politics better and probably has given this incident more thought.

SITS if you're out there. Flashie seems to think that the gunman who murdered those people in Arizona, did so to further the agenda of athiesm and carried out the attacks in the name of atheism. I think he is wrong and in fact he is just desperate to show atheism in a bad light at every possible oppurtunity.

it only makes sense if you read the sun or daily star and think its really a news paper when its clearly bullshit.

hard_candy: Generalising?!!

'btw did you see the paedophiles caught in uk this week? theyre not pakistanis!'

why did you make such a statement?

should i have said 'no, they were white, non-muslim westerners?'

That statement had f*ck all to do with religion and the topic at hand. You mentioned it because you were GENERALISING.

flashie: no, i just happened to notice in the news story that this tucson terrorist guy is a die hard athiest. and for balance against all the bad press muslims get thought it was noteworthy to mention. im sure some muslim terrorists are politically motivated more than religiously motivated.

i never said he did it in the name of athiesm, youre putting words in my mouth.

bin laden if its to belived was politically motivated as he didnt want american bases in saudi.

i dont know any terrorists to ask fortunately, but like the athiest tucson tosser ppls religions dont always dictate their crimes, i think youll find terrorism and suicide bombing is bourne of politics not god or lack of one.

flashie: i mentioned it because you love to report to the world here every crime you can find if it involves muslims, any chance you get.

im just pointing out that pedophiles exist who arent muslims. terrorists exist who dont belive in a god. etc

its f all to do with the west or muslims, its a condition affecting humans generally so yes im generalising that instead of singling out mankinds crimes placing blame on one group of ppl only.

tossers go both ways, is that too hard to grasp? can we find some common ground in that perhaps?

or do you want to say its all islams fault and west and its athiests are above such crimes?

hard_candy: 'because you love to report to the world here every crime you can find if it involves muslims'

No, thats wrong. Only the crimes that were carried out in the name of the muslims religion. In the same way i would report crimes carried out in the name of christianity or mormonism......but they are few and far between compared to the 'religion of peace'

You only mentioned that the gunman was an atheist to portray atheism as bad, and you know it. Stop being so disingenuous.

'Arizona gunman was avid stamp-collector!'

Doesnt have the same effect.

BTW what was your source that claims he was an atheist?

flashie: bbc news channel in the profile of who the guy is and whst might have motivated him. went somthing along the lines of hes a loner dope smoker who was into conspiracy theories and an passionate atheist, police are trying to find out if he has any connect to white supremacist groups.

whats up? are you struggling to get your head around an athiest being a mass murderer? why is that so hard to comprehend?

remember when maggie said there is no society, only individuals?

if an ayhiest or muslim or worshipper of the spaghetti monster or stamp collector -does some kind of a crime do they represent the entire movement in your eyes?

bush and perhaps blair started an illegal war in iraq, (remember those bombs falling from the sky over bagdad on tv that night?) in the name of 'freedom'. it doesnt represent any person who belives in the idea of freedom does it? or does it candy?

dont you see that freedom had not much to do with it? cant you get your head around the fact that if one nutter decides to kill innocent people its that persons responsibility not whatever religion or ideas he holds people elsewhere in the world?

thats what i mean by daft generalisation.

those pakistani tossers who raped girls arent doing it in the name of god are they? so, why even post it? but you think youre justified and go nuts when i mention a terrorist who happens to be an atheist or pedophiles into child porn who arent muslims or catholics.

ive said it before, but its mind boggling how some people fall for and join in hype.

but in reality were all humans, we have to share the planet and accept different strokes for different folks.

instead of looking down your nose at people and falsely accusing them why not look at some positives and you might learn somthing good instead of snowballing hate to fuel your time here.

flashie: anyway, back to the topic. post your atheist quotes nao -

'Take this silver lining
Keep it in your own sweet head
Shine it when the night is burning red
Shine it in the twilight
Shine it on the cold cold ground
Shine it till these walls come
Tumbling down

We were born with our eyes wide open
So alive with wild hope
Now can you tell me why
Time after time
They drag you down
Down in the darkness deep
Fools in their madness all around
Know that the light don't sleep

Step into the silence
Take it in your own two hands
And scatter it like diamonds
All across these lands
Blaze it in the morning
Wear it like an iron skin
Only things worth living for
Innocence and magic-amen'

StuckInTheSixties: Okay, my opinion was requested, and here it is, for whatever it's worth:

The news has been intensely focused on the Tucson shooting, of course. It's been the leading story since it happened, and besides leading the news, there have been tons of other programs on TV devoted to the incident, the political ramifications of it, the media's role, etc. etc. There has been a huge amount of exposure of that news story. No one should be in the least surprised about that. In many hours of exposure to that news story, I have heard that the shooter was atheist from only one single source:

flashie.

flashie says to Special Agent Nastee:

"i think youre on a crusade to slander muslims in particular"

She's been a valued friend of mine for quite some time now, under a number of different usernames. One thing I can say unequivocably about Candy/Nastee: She is an equal-opportunity mocker when it comes to fundamentalist religion. I've seen her skewer both Islam and Christianity many times. In fact, only a few days ago she posted some very entertaining YouTube clips that were clearly targeting creationist Christians. She's even gently poked at me for my outspoken stance of being an agnostic.

flashie has views that are combatively opposed to the idea of atheism (just as many atheists have views that are combatively opposed to religion), and he's taken his anti-atheist attitude and imposed it upon his perception of the Tucson shooting story. While it may be true that the shooter is atheist (I personally don't know), as far as I can tell, atheism had nothing to do with his reason for his insane act.

flashie, as an ardent Muslim, has a habit of taking any comment by anyone that is critical of his religion, and pronouncing that person to be "anti-Muslim," even when it's clear that the person is critical not only of his religion, but religion in general. He's done it to me too. flashie is the only person in Wireclub ever to call me an Islamophobe. (Curiously, I've also been criticized by true Islamophobes for being a Muslim apologist.)

So, to summarize, it would appear to me that flashie, in both of these circumstances, is imposing his own biases, and contorting reality in an attempt to make it fit his own vision.

StuckInTheSixties: By the way, a cursory Google search "jared lee loughner atheist" did not turn up any definitive information about that actually being the case.

What it did turn up was a huge pile of conservative websites characterizing him as an atheist, a huge pile of liberal websites accusing conservatives of characterizing him as an atheist, religious groups characterizing him as an atheist, atheists objecting that he's being characterized as an atheist, and on and on and on.

Should we be surprised?

flashie: i was just pointing out that bbc news reported the guy is an atheist. contrary to opinion that all terrorists are muslims.

same for rapists and pedos, which candy and ninja turtle like to tarnish muslims with, this week in a big news story on our own shores a pedo ring of sick scumbags has been uncovered, who im pleased to say arent muslims either.

so to conclude, tossers exist in all walks of life its nothing to do with religion or lack of it. its to do with people.

if thats hard to get your head around you gotta be some kind of phobe or a moron.

flashie: it was mentioned on the bbc news channel Sits, which was on all day in the background here at home.

do you think i need to lie? or have i given you any reason to think im making things up to strengthen my argument?

ive never been on here to spout hate toward atheists i could care less what anyone wants to belive for themselves. ive actually let folks on here know more than once that a good mate of mine has an atheist website called atheist abyss.

if you think im attacking atheists youre mistaken, i was just pointing out to the anger of ppl who clearly seem to have a chip on their shoulder that the terrorist all over the news this week isnt a muslim but an atheist.

funny huh? its not only muslims from that 'idiot religion' eh candy?

For each of the half dozen BBC links that resulted, I searched "atheist."

No results.

"if you think im attacking atheists youre mistaken"

The title of this thread is "Post Your Atheist Quotes Nao!!!"

Obviously, you didn't post on this thread in order to leave an atheist quote. Your first post was to argue that George Carlin was omitting Islam from his criticism of religion. Any objective examination of that post would lead the reader to assume your intention was to foment argument.

Not that doing that is wrong.

But that was clearly your intention. And when one examines the many posts you've made in many threads, claiming that one would be mistaken to assume you had any intent on attacking atheism is disingenuous, at best. Arguably, it's totally hypocritical.

You've even attacked me for being an atheist, and when I explained I was an agnostic, you expressed that as far as you were concerned, they were one and the same.

flashie: me too. it was a clip obviously from an american news channel broadcast on the 24hr bbc channel we get here.

i just watched half a clip in which i recognised an american guy talking about jared from msnbc, tho as its been on tv so much im not sure if i recognise the clip to be the one mentioning him being an atheist or just one of many shown.
