Prayer Does it work for you? (Page 2)

cyber4EVA
cyber4EVA: That's exactly it, Colinian!

Such people like to post their claims as if they were indisputable truths, valid for everybody and for all eternity, but then, they feel hurt when others dare to challenge them after all!

Such sentiments are not actually creating a healthy climate for debate, but at the same time, it is important to meet these challenges, to indicate that not everybody can agree with them.

If you decide to put your head in the guilliotine, you must also be prepared for the possibility that someome might actually chop it off!

busting4u: Prayer does work but if you have no faith and just saying a bunch of words then nothing is going happen.You have to have faith in what you are prayer for or nothing is going happen.Behind prayer is faith (aka believe) if you don't believe in the prayer you are saying then you're just wasting your time.People pray and when nothing happens they get hurt.Why? Because they did not have faith behind their prayer.Read the bible.The answer is there right in front of you.

Agricola: Why not pray to stop world hunger or world peace instead of whimsical stuff like 'I hope I catch my train', 'I hope I pass this exam' etc etc

CoIin: So now we're saying that people who have faith always have their prayers answered? And the faithless never do?

Hmm, once again this contradicts what other theists have said before, but if it's true it should be easy to demonstrate.

Alas, as we well know, it cannot be demonstrated. Are we now saying that the 1600 Christians who participated in the study on the previous page were all without faith?

Well, let's work on the assumption anyway.... let's say you were the most devout Christian/Moslem/whatever on the planet. Your faith, as well as your love of God and mankind, are beyond doubt. You pray for world peace, or a cure for cancer, or elimination of hip-hop, or whatever. What results might we expect?

My guess is absolutely nothing. And I've little doubt it's been tried before - millions of times (except for the hip-hop thing perhaps).

CoIin: The moral of the story is..... I'm sure many thests pray with the best of intentions, but if it's a cure for cancer you want, I recommend focussing on the guys in the white labcoats. Deities have an extremely poor track record of alleviating mankind's woes.

Brazza: Then, we also have the habitual prayerers, who recite something as a daily repetition, often without fully understanding what it means, the same way you perform a fixed ritual, like reading the newspaper in the morning or going to the pub for an afternoon drink every day. Such people are far from fervent, so will their prayers be answered as well?

Sorry, I don't mean to be disrespectful here, I'm just trying to understand the meaning of it all.

smoke4ever: Understand that Jesus Christ is God and the Savior of mankind.
Then when you pray and ask in His name, He will answer.

Jesus said, "Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives;
he who seeks finds;
and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!"

Trifle: I'll take a long break from Wireclub again and not return until the clientele can conduct a mature conversation.

And for the record, I have never prayed. I come from a long line of non-believers on both sides of my family and even if I had wanted to pray, my parents would have told me that it were wrong. The only people I know for sure pray are some Christians and Muslims at my college. Otherwise, the rest of us are completely prayer-free, so don't even go there again.

It's like if I claimed that you were a shallow, bone-headed sex-fixated gay pedophile that thinks of nothing but naked underaged boys all your awake moments. But I can't read your mind, just as you can't read mine, so if you continue to pretend to know my thoughts, you are insulting me deeply.

Take a crash-course in respect and politeness before you embarrass yourself even more.

Now, it's bedtime on campus...

random1: So much anger… with regards to the last post, I think there’s a bit of a leap from someone saying ‘everyone prays’ to ‘its like if I claimed…you’re a sex fixated gay pedophile.’ etc. not the best platform to preach respect and rational debate. you’ve been successfully trolled by three words, in the religion section, and you’re an atheist.

busting4u: Excuse me Trifle but YOU came into this forum on your own free will.If you can't handle the topic then you might want to check out the other topics on here.I am not here trying to change any bodies mind.I am here to talk about the topic which is Does Prayer Work? People don't understand something so they assume it is either a lie,fake or not real.Just like these scientist saying God is not real.Why they say this,because they can not touch,see and examine God.All you have to do is look around you and you have enough evidence to know that God is real.
