legoguy: That might be because the moderates are not eager enough to distance themselves from the extremists' view and combat it in a visible way, to show outsiders that their religion isn't all extreme. Passive bystanders are to blame as much as extremists for making the religion appear in a bad light.

azer786: thats true to a certain extent.ppl tend to play onda negatives as it makes for better news. The truth is these minority extremists have really used the religion and interpreted things in a way that is so far from truth to suit their goals.its not the belief of all muslims.

One point made was that atheists do not have the right to pick flaws in others religions.

Let me say this. I live in a free society, you can practise what ever religion you wish by law. However, that same free secular society also gives me freedom to speak whatever I am thinking at the time. It allows me to have a voice as a woman. I'm not sure I would get that same liberty elsewhere.

skully: It's worse than that, Azer. Think about all the young men Bin Laden has brainwashed into suicide bombings and other acts of terror. Where were the imams and ayatollahs when they should have been waiving their finger and telling them that this was a dangerous path to enter? I think that the time is long overdue for a serious anti-Bin Laden propaganda campain in the Islamic world if Muslims in general want to be regarded as something else than "terrorist sympathizers".

Lex_Hardon: Maybe not completely evil but it definately is medievil in its mindset. Thing about Islam is, its not just a religion, its a complete system, Islam has religious, legal, political, economic and military components. eg Sharia Law.
When politically correct and culturally diverse societies agree to ‘the reasonable’ Muslim demands for their ‘religious rights,’ they also get the other components under the table. U can see proof of that happening now.

Hurting people's sentiments by posting derogatory comments on their faith is EVIL no matter what religion you believe in.

I am not a muslim...but let me tell you Islam is not an evil religion.

AussieOi: I believe religions power is drawn from our fear of death which is instinctual. We want to have an afterlife, a reason for life. But true realists can be brave enough to think that when we die, we die. And go into the organic dust or humus. And our conciousness becomes extinct.
