Grand Jury Fails to Indict Micheal Browns Killer:Ferguson (Page 2)

Nicotina
Nicotina:
In the USA the police departments are becoming more & more militarized. Why a local police force is in need of military grade equipment is beyond me. It appears that the police forces are able to access military grade weapons with little to no training. When our (formerly friendly) local police man/woman looks like, and is armed in the same fashion as, the US military there is going to be a negative result.
Let the police do their jobs and "police" the community, knowing that their primary objective is to "serve & protect". When the average person sees the police department outfitted as though they are going to war, the message to the public is that the police are at war with all citizens.

For myself, I need to go through the information that was made available to the grand jury before being able to make an informed decision. From what I have seen thus far, it is a continuation of bias against those persons who just so happen to have a darker skin tone.

I still dare to dream of peace.

chronology: Nicotina. A real consideration Police Forces face is 'Health and Safety' restrictions. Like all employers they have to provide a safe working environment. In a Civil Disorder situation that means Officers need protection from rocks being thrown through windows, gasoline bombs, rifle shots. It would be completely unreasonable to expect any Officers to patrol a riotous area in a regular automobile, they require proper protection. Can you imagine how long regular Police Patrol cars would have lasted in Ferguson during the recent riots? every car in the Force would have been wrecked in a matter of hours by rock throwing crowds. That is why Armed Vehicles are needed. The alternative is to use the National Guard every time there is a Civil disturbance, and frankly that is not acceptable, National Guard Personnel are fine men and women, but they are not trained as professionally as Police Officers in dealing with civilians. So the only solution is for Police Forces to be properly equipped in dealing with violent gangs of people, and that means using military vehicles and equipment at times. Police Officers, like everyone els deserve proper safety equipment.

Here is the 'why' the Police need front line hardware...

In N. Hollywood shoot, the cops were out gunned by just a couple of punks with AK's. Look at the carnage these robbers caused. Imagine a half dozen radical Muslim extremists armed to the teeth in a mall on the weekend.

Chrono..That shoot out was a terrible time for the police. SWAT was no where to be found. Some of the cops actually had to borrow firearms from a local gun shop. Their issued shotguns and handguns were no match for the robbers. That shoot out reminded me of two movies...one was 'Heat'.

The13th: Pilgrim input has been credible, let's just ignored his sweeping statement on american police had no rule of engagement. It is unsporting for a UK guy not to take a sweep at the yank when opportunity arise.

Police officer is just trying to do his job, Grand jury decision of not going to trial is not surprising. If he hesitate he might not live to see his family.

But did I hear 6 bullets entering the body of Michael Brown? The police should explain this. This probably should go to trial.

ghostgeek: OK, here's another shooting of a black teenager since Ferguson. On the evening of September 21, police were called to check on reports of trespassers with weapons going into an abandoned home in Terrebonne, Louisiana. Cameron Tillman, a 14-year-old boy was shot dead on the scene by a sheriff’s deputy. His brother, who was there, said he was shot opening the door and was unarmed, but the police said he was armed and that a gun was recovered near his body. It was later reported that the weapon was a BB gun that appeared to be a .45-caliber pistol. The cop was not named, but was identified as an African-American veteran of the division with no prior infractions. The kid was a high school freshman and talented athlete, with a 3.7 grade point average and no reputation for trouble. Now be honest, has anybody heard about this case? Most likely the answer is no. There are no protests, just a modest memorial outside the house on Kirkglen Loop, where people come by with candles and balloons.

CinnamonPrincess: lookin at the known facts i see no real reason to indict him, and the peoples reaction to the decision was pathetic at best, the looting had NOTHING to do with michael brown at all, they asses just wanted free shit, which acting like wild animals out of a zoo doesnt strengthen any cause or send any message other than the fact that there are a lot of idiots, I was hoping someone else woulda been shot, so an example coulda been made, but im sure media woulda spin that to hope to god it was an opposing race.

(newsflash media includes race to just fire ignorant window lickers up, race doesnt matter....a cop shot a kid cause he felt threatened while they fought, they are PEOPLE we are all people, I dont care if he was green, color doesnt matter, if a big guy like that gets physical with a cop u take a risk of getting shot) take responsibility for situations u put urself in, all u are doin is adding to the list of dumb shit u do. U makin us all look bad by rioting and looting GET RIGHT. It was horrible that he got shot but it aint like he got shot for eating a bag of skittles and mindin his business. Im thinkin anytime u get physical with a cop u run a risk of getting hurt or worse.

robertbatchelor: So Michael Brown was not thought to be worth it. The police seem to have the right to shoot others and not get into court. why a young man died it matters little who killed him as it should come and tel the court deside not other police people To me it is like the army have the right to kill people without question We have a legal system but no justice system

The13th: Oh yeah Robert, tell us what would a very considerate guy like yourself would do if you were the police officer that day. There is a great chance that you would shoot Michael Brown given the same circumstances right?

It is only a specific incident in a specific circumstances, dont generalized it into police can kill without going to court.

If an officer in the US fires his weapon in any circumstance, a review is done. I know of circumstance where the cop shot and killed his attacker and was put in jail for 10 years even though the Internal Investigation said it was a good shoot.

DEEP_acheleg: y, so its hard to say. the real shame is that race has been so strongly attributed to this case,. which doesnt help one bit for class cohesion.

if i were to place myself as the spokesperson for the poles killed in Auschwitz, would i receieve widespread support, or be accused of marginalizing the genocide of an unrelated class.

the point is that classist support is, in itself, chauvinism- even if it is the police union unquestionably protecting their police guild members/
