The13th: Let's get the simple fact out of the way: on most things you don't really need to protest, you just have to tell those people who are responsible, and they will take a look, and work on it. Thee cant always give u what u want, but chance is they also wish to have what you want.

Protest are warrant if a simple phone conversation does not seem to let to any progress.

The13th: Now the hard part: protester sucks. They lead to the downfall of governments and organized way of life. Eygpt, Libya, Syria are all in deep shit. Ukraine is in shit. Many parents have lost their children. And even if you manage to survive. What's the future to live in a refugee camp? Kids will probably need to suck cock to stay alive. And that's all the protesters fault. Protester are destructive. Us folks making hard yakka building things up, protester never build anything and just destroy. Wipe out protestor like they are cockcroahes and we will have world peace.

Okay lets look at some examples.

In 2001 I and many others signed a petition asking that the Australian government stop locking up refugees,especially children.

Result:FAIL

In 2001 I and many others signed a petition asking that the Australian government did not invade Afghanistan.

Result: FAIL

In 2002 I and many others signed a petition asking that the Australian government did not invade Iraq.

Result:FAIL

In 2004 I and many others signed a petition asking that the Western Australian government
did not log a particular forest.I even personally spoke to Premier Geoff gallop but he was not interested.

I could go on and cite another dozen examples at least of petitions and lobbying against government and corporations THAT HAVE NOT WORKED!

To say that protestors are cockroaches is ridiculous.Everything that you enjoy today has been fought for through protest.Democracy,end to serfdom,end to slavery,equality and above all else Freedom.If not then you would not have the freedom to even write the garbage that you post.

The thing is ghost ignorant people like you live in some kind of fantasy world inhabited by fairies,elves and mythical beings.Your above statement quite clearly shows that you don't live in the real world.

The13th: yes, jack, thats the way to do it, petition, dialogue, not massing thousands of people to block a street and paralyse the city. I am very sure the gov have considered and unfortunately cannot fulfill your wish. Elect another gov and it would still be the same. Sorry, but the important thing is they have considered and turn it down not for their own selves interest, but for the greater good of the Aussie in general, or perhaps I should just say that's what most Aussie want.

p/s on matter of going to world it may not be what the people want, but the fact is your gov has no choice but to follow US lead.

In 2000 we protested against a corporation wanting to build a waste incinerator next to a residential area.

Guess what?
We won.

In 2000 we protested against the logging of old growth forests in Western Australia by shutting down machinery,blocking roads and sending the Perth C.B.D into repeated gridlock.

Guess what?
Not only did we win but we also got a statewide ban on logging in old growth areas.

in 2004-06 we protested against the governments new workplace laws by going on strike and repeatedly shutting down the C.B.D.

Guess what?
It became the defining issue that got the government kicked out.

Hell I even protested once against the local council shutting down our swimming pool and they were forced to keep it open.Petitions and lobbying rarely work (unless you are a large corporation). Protest has a better chance.

What's the point then? You just stated that it works in most cases but clearly that is not true.

The13th: I am not familiar with the issues that you raise so I cannot tell whether you have teally earned victories for the people, or manage to pervert the course of event thru tactics. Say, what modern gov would introduce any work place laws that does not have the welfare of the state in mind. You might have won the fight but the future of the state might have suffer a setback. And why does protest need to send CBD into gridlock, what has CBD done to deserve this.

But that's not the point. The point is too many protests have gone seriously wrong that all protests no matter how just must now be judge with maximum prejudice. In the past year we have observe our close neighbor thailand having weeks and months of protest crowd paralysing bangkok CBD. Eventually some sinister plotter decide firing on the crowd to hope to bring down the government. Spare a thought for those families who lost a son or daughter in the protest. They have to live the rest of their life thinking about the lost one every day. There is no let go. Everyday for the rest of your life, while you drive, you work, you eat, you rest in front of TV, mind always flash back to the kids who get shot that day.
