In WW2 entire cities were destroyed, Dresden, Hamburg, Berlin. Thanks to the vision of 'Old Abe' Americans escaped all of that. This is a tough one, Americans still argue over what is a fair wage or rate of Tax. 'Justice' that all people have a opportunity to a fair Trial in Court. For the last two hundred years Americans have led the world in all these hopes people have of living to a higher standard. Abe Lincoln had the imagination to carry America through the crisis of the Civil War. The world is run for the most part by Oligarchies and despots of one kind or another, always has been, always will be. But America is one spark of light on a very dark planet. Old Abe knew the South would soon be like any other country, the working man would as trodden down as the negro and the South would be ruled by Oligarchs like every other country. The Military of the South would be a constant threat to the Peace and Freedom of the United States. I believe De Niro got into the part and stayed in the part he played as Travis Bickle, a Presidential assassin.
