In any event, it will be interesting today to see how the new polls here show the NYC mayoral race. I can easily see Weiner staying in the mix because he is a very, very smart guy who has star power and is very savvy politically. Plus, New Yorkers can be a very forgiving lot if someone fesses up, and the rest of the mayoral candidate field has no big political names. Has anyone outside of the New York heard of Christine Quinn? Personally, I don't give two shits about whether Anthony shows his Weiner to the world, although it does show some element of Clintonesque recklessness that is troubling and could derail anything he might want to do should he get elected. OCD_OCD: The recklessness, along with his obvious penchant for sexting and his cover-up of the problem would lead me not to trust him in any capacity. It might be different if he had come out before the chit hit the fan and confessed that he was having problems, but he didn't. He waited until he couldn't deny it any longer before he 'fessed up. Mike Bloomberg is more the exception than the rule. He has been great for New York and never betrayed any major trust issues. I know some can't separate out Weiner's personal douchebaggedness from his desire to be mayor. But I am willing to do that. First and foremost, New York needs someone who can continue the improvement that's been going on here since 9/11, without the rank nastiness of a Guiliani character. His personal peccadilloes (is that not a GREAT word???) are for him and his wife to work out. davesdatahut: Guiliani, while a publicity hound and not a prosecutor of any note (others did the actual prosecuting), deserves great praise for his assault on the mob.No argument there. The city is better for it, without question. The crime drop...yes, he deserves some credit for that, too, although the economic boom in the 1990s, the emergence of the city from the fiscal crisis of the 1970s and 80s, and the decline of the crack epidemic were also major factors in the remarkable decline in crime here.
