Morning After Pill now available to as young as 15, soon, maybe no age restrictions (Page 2)

Geoff
Geoff: The average person's (at least in a western nation) diet screws with the biological processes a lot more.

All that processed sugar, artificial sweeteners/preservatives/colourants. Not to mention the unhealthy quantities of fats and salts. Oh, and the fact that moderation seems to be an alien concept to many people.

Merely convincing the body that it really doesn't need to be pregnant right now is a small thing in comparison.

Geoff: I'm not baiting anyone. There are many, many things that are done to human bodies, knowingly and not, consenting and not, benignly and not; I think the consensual use of contraception hardly ranks in the list of things that are bad for humans.

OCD_OCD: I love Monty Python.

One of my all time favorite movies has John Cleese, Michael Palin and Jamie Lee Curtis. A Fish Called Wanda. Every time I see it I laugh my ass off.

The did a follow up, same cast totally different premise. Fierce Creatures.

That was quite funny too.

GeraldTheGnome: I'd rather see it available to all that need it regardless of how low the age, I'd also rather see those that are underaged discouraged from rushing in to have sex as early as possible in the first place as well. For rape victims that decision was out of their control and I feel sorry for them, but for them and any other female of any age that should have the pill, should get the pill. The pill should used appropriately and as early as possible. Late in the cycle situations are something that I am against. Whether anyone can vote or not in any specific country is irrelevant because this issue is a serious one in any country where this pill is available or is banned. My country is no exception to that rule.

GeraldTheGnome: I stress need it, not just those that have neglect for a pre-birth forming human life form. Early for all though is acceptable in my mind as long as their attitude is the right kind.

Serabi:

I think the 'Morning after' pill should be available across the board. We have 12 year olds having kids! Many of them try to get contraceptives, but the nurses at the Government clinics treat them like dirt and they don't go.

Many of these pregnancies are the result of rape. Kids can't have kids. Government has now made it compulsory for the schools to allow these pregnant kids back into the classroom. Now some schools look as though some little girls swallowed watermelons!

I think that this pill is a lot less destructive than abortions or giving birth to a string of babies. Kids' bodies are not equipped for labour.

Child sex, however horrifying, is a part of society now. We have to adapt.

"South Africa has a huge teen pregnancy problem - one in three girls has had a baby by the age of 16," David Harrison, Chief Executive Officer of LoveLife, South Africa's largest youth-targeted HIV/AIDS campaign, told IRIN.

In a country where HIV prevalence is 24.8 percent, the high level of teenage pregnancy has heightened concerns. According to the South African Medical Research Council (MRC), "The latest national survey into HIV prevalence recorded that 32 percent of pregnant women under the age of 20 tested HIV positive."

The problem is not equally serious in all parts of the country: on average, two to three girls fall pregnant in a typical school with 1,200 to 1,400 pupils. "But what is clear is that there are hotspots where things are horribly wrong," Harrison said. The Gauteng figures showed 71 percent of pupils pregnant at one school in Soweto, a huge township on the outskirts of Johannesburg.

"Somehow there are schools where 60 to 70 percent of pupils were pregnant. There is no doubt that this is associated with things like gang activity, coercion, rape and substance abuse," Harrison said, adding that according to a 2012 survey, 48 percent of girls in South Africa said "their first sexual experience was forced or under threat of force".

Discouraged??? Everybody tries!

The morning after pill will help with the rate of pregnancies, but not with AIDS!

Exactly!

I must admit, the Department of Health did have a big condom hand-out campaign a few years back... it was a joke amongst a large % of the population (The racist ones, black and white, you know). The condoms were stapled onto the leaflets - through the middle of the condom!!!

Believe it or not!?
