Vote in Senate on guns is a gift from the heavens for moderates and the left

davesdatahut: Whatever you view on gun control legislation, the Senate's rejection of ALL the measures aimed at either weapon restrictions or stronger background checks is a GIFT from heaven to moderates and the left. Come next election, legislators throughout the country who are even close to those who rejected these proposals are going to get pounded like a rag doll in campaign ads in the next round of elections.
Those running in areas where guns rule will not be in danger. But those in more moderate areas will get a country whipping in the ad wars and will have a hard time getting elected or re-elected. This is like the second coming of the MItt Romney 47-percent remark - a gift on a silver platter for moderates and gun control advocates. The political ad makers are probably rubbing their hands together with glee already.
The gun lovers (NRA et al) just don't get it. They can no longer win the day with the angry, old man constituency. The country is changing and diversifying and the pissed--off contingent that wants to turn back the clock is fading away, But the gun lobby and the hard right is blind as blind mice to this. A little bone of compromise is all they would have needed. But they wouldn't do it or couldn't do it. When the next election rolls around, their votes will come back to bite them like a shotgun recoiling in their faces.
