GeraldTheGnome: Sorry about that Duncan. I get the same message about shows from outside of Australia at times. What I was showing was an Australian political comedy.

OCD_OCD: I know what you mean, Lipton. The person (woman, I think) who was able to get out of N. Korea came from that sort of "reality is what you say it is" mentality, so I don't know what to think, either.

GeraldTheGnome: I very much doubt that cannibalism has occurred there. Just before the North Korean government further limited South Koreans (and those in South Korea) down to only the DMZ, there was back then a National Park/Forest Area in North Korea that South Koreans were allowed to go to. The whole place was a tourist trap where everything was a rip off, well one night a South Korean Tourist, who according to South Korean reports, was sleepwalking when she accidentally strayed into a no go zone and night and was shot dead. The North Korean reports have the story going a different way, whatever the truth was the South Korean Tourist was shot dead while straying into a no go zone at the National Park/Forest at night.

That shutdown the South Korean tourist 'pilgrimages' to that part of North Korea.

I responded to the words 'good friends'. The US has relationships with the good, the bad, and the ugly. I prefer we did not have any relations with the bad and the ugly but the world is a much smaller place now and we must have some sort of relationship even if it is to tell them "we gonna kick your ass".

David responds:

The obvious answer is….. if Israel got involved in a war along side the US against Muslim based countries, they would rally around the Religion of Peace, and truly believe that the “Jewish devil is trying to destroy Islam”. Israeli troops going into Iraq and Afghanistan which would have been worse…..makes perfect sense. Regarding Viet Nam, in 1967 Israel had just gone through a war that could have annihilated them. The cost in Jewish lives was high. Perhaps you should read up on the value of Israel in relations to the US economy. Many US companies have turned to Israel as the country that has the “can do” attitude.

orangemoon8: Yeah, after 5 years keep blaming George Bush on everything, are you kidding?, Obama has run up more debt than all the presidents combined. What's next? All the streetlights that are on during the day are gonna be Bush's fault too. Obama goes to California and tell all the ppl there he shares their sympathy about the drought. All because of a small fish by the way. Yet, he likes playing golf on that well watered California golf course.

orangemoon8: Islam, is said to be a religion of peace, yet is was born out of violence. What is the Kaaba Stone?, the Kaaba stone is a meteorite that the Pagans worshipped, until Mohammad came back from Medina, and slaughtered everyone who didn't submit to Islam. saying it was a false God, they now "stone"...it.

Sir Loin
Sir Loin: Actually you shouldn't blame the North Koreans for acting the way they do. There is a deep seated hatred of all things American dating back to the war when the arrogance of the American military pissed everybody off in the region, followed shortly after by the genocide in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. No damn wonder USA is so hated in SE Asia!

Sir Loin: I'm not saying NK is right in its brinkmanship, just that I understand why. You should try living in the region just to experience the hatred felt universally for USA. I'm currently living in China and all my students distrust Obama and half expect American bombs to kill them all. Same in Philippines, although there they half expect to all be sent to the electric chair if they speak out against USA.
It's not Bush who should be blamed but the average American soldier for his disgusting behaviour when overseas.

davidk14: .

You are absolutely correct that there was genocide in Viet Nam, Cambodia and Laos which exists today. Not by the America. Your hatred of America is evident and you do not hold others to the same accountability. The attached is just a taste of the genocide going on today in Asia and around the world. Perhaps you should focus on the 300 little girls who were kidnapped recently in Nigeria by radical Islamic extremists. Bash those terrorists for a few minutes.

Sir Loin: Ummm, I was referring to SE Asia, last time I looked Nigeria was in Africa. But yeah ok, I know USA isnt the only country to practice genocide, Pol Pot did a pretty good job of it against his own people, USA went on to kill a hell of a lot more innocent civilians with their carpet bombing of Cambodia for 6 years every day.
The point I tried to make was the sheer damn arrogance and criminal activity shown by the American military, whether as individual soldiers or en masse, which is responsible for the hatred felt towards USA in Asia.
David, I don't know how you can deny the genocide practiced by your country, its there written in history. Seems the whole world knows it but USA.

davidk14: Sir Loin,

I think you may misunderstand. War is war. People die. Sometimes...lots of people. However, starvation and lack of clean drinking water has killed many more than war. Hundreds of thousands have died from lack of these basic human needs.

You mention Cambodia and the 1960's and '70's. We are much different now. However, I wish we would not put boots on the ground unless we have a legal Declaration of War. We have been fighting extremist radical Islamist's and we need to determine how to have a legal Declaration of War so that the gloves come off.

War is not pretty even when declared. The best war is the war that never happened. However, the kidnapping of the 300 school girls in Nigeria by radical extremists [which Hillary did not want to label as a terrorist organization] has upped the ante. It's been three weeks now. Media states the US, Britain and France may / have already / placed boots on the ground. What we should have done is to draft a Declaration of War against the terrorist group Boko Haram and demand the safe return of the 300. If not.... we go to war. A legal war to do the right thing.

Sir Loin: Sorry David, I've recently moved to China, don't speak the language and unable to access any world news in English due to censorship (I'm even forbidden to use WC! hehehe) So, I haven't been able to keep up to date with world events.
My big beef with the USA is their history of military intervention and the objectionable way in which servicemen act when in other countries. I am very familiar with SE Asia and can state, the hatred towards America is pretty much universal here.
Almost every family in the region tells tales of how they lost a member due to US aggression. There's also the history of relentless bombing Cambodian and Laotian civilians daily for 6 years in late 60s- early 70s which most Americans like to deny ever happened. USA also seems to consider they had some justification becoming involved in Vietnam. Even glorifying it it Hollywood movies... Sickening!
