The fact that this happened in the U.S. military is the reason you are reading about it... the reason they are charged with crimes. I have two responses to that. A) If they are stealing that oil, then how did OPEC get rich? B) Most of the oil that the United States imports comes through a pipeline from Canada. Canada has proven oil reserves of more than 178 billion barrels, more than any OPEC nation except Saudi Arabia. And we are finding much more every day. There is already a pipeline running from the Canadian oilfields to the American refineries, and a second one is being built. When it is completed, the United states will have little use for OPEC's oil. Syria has only 2.5 billion barrels of oil, and the United States buys none of it.
