Geoff: I'd say the same. But the V would not be a "Third person reference" but a "Euphemism".

After all, different strokes... I personally find that a little firmness of the fingers gets one a awful long way...

Corwin: Although much wisdom can be gleaned from Yoda and the Star Wars trilogy, I will still place my faith in "Go Dog Go" by Dr. Seuss as the basis of my philosophical standpoint.

"Do you like this hat?"
"No, I do not."

Words to live by.

Corwin: I love how at the end they all party in the top of a tree, and that lady-dog finally finds a hat that her love-interest approves of. It's kind of representative of a car-driving-dog Valhalla of some kind. Very profound.

And it matches well with some of Yoda's philosophy - "always emotion is the future"

Geoff: The true culmination of Star Wars is the use of John Williams "The Throne Room and End Credits" score used in the original (aka Episode IV: A New Hope".

But, back on track - the gist was: does human intention matter in the grand scheme of things. for instance: will Truman be remembered for the man who ended a war, or the man who dropped the bomb on Japan?

Corwin: Wow... all of that from a simple Yoda quote... hmmmm....

It's difficult to say what one will be remembered for. Clinton will always be remembered as the President who was boinking his intern, regardless of whatever foreign policy or other Political action he took during his term, good or bad.

I'm reminded of some posts of Colin's on another thread pertaining to "the illusion of free-will".
Can we truly hold one man responsible for the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Was this truly a matter of one man's intentions, or a mosaic of powerful international forces clashing and allying in a manner almost chaotic in nature? With the outcome a matter of destiny regardless of who had their finger on the button?

(wow... that's kinda deep.)

Geoff: The intention was to point out that a movie quote can be kinda deep. Although Kung Fu Panda's "Yesterday is history, tomorrow's a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present." is perhaps less deep and little more "Well, durr."

Geoff: And Clinton (in the UK) will be remembered as "That guy between those two other guys who sent our lads to war."

Bush Jr will always be remembered as, "That twat who avoided enough of Vietnam that he didn't realise he was reliving it...TWICE!"

Corwin: J. Edgar Hoover isn't remembered for the dam they named after him, but instead as the President who had a fetish for wearing women's clothing. Some of his female wardrobe has auctioned for quite a hefty sum.

Jimmy Carter is remembered for being a former peanut-farmer..... and nothing else.

Reagan is remembered for being the first movie-star to become President.

It seems that in America, a President is only remembered if they make it into the gossip magazines, and Hollywood rags. I see the same sort of fate is falling on the Royal Family... doesn't say much for the priorities and values of the common slob.

Geoff: J. Edgar never made president.

Carter is remembered for failing to deal with the aftermath of the Nixon administration (Ford was part of the Nixon administration).

Reagan is remembered for being in the oval office when the Soviet Union collapsed.

Corwin: Funny how Canadian Prime Ministers aren't remembered for too much even here in Canada.

Trudeau is remembered for being a Playboy and a womanizer... and they loved him for it. And to sweeten the deal, Mrs. Trudeau was boinking Mick Jagger... which everybody also thought was pretty cool.

Other than that, the only other PM that evokes a memory of any kind is Cretien... and only because he beat an intruder unconscious with an Inuit carving, and because he once called Bush Sr. an a-hole over an open mic at the UN.
