Death Penlty (Page 4)

singdawg: I'll slit the murders throat. I can do it in an unbiased way. Give me a knife, give me government sanction, give me a minute and the convict would be dead. I wouldn't like to do it, but i'd do it. Someone should do it. Come on, really... pickton? olsen? someone who decapitates someone? they sometimes put people like this in prisons enabling them to be both punished and provided for by the state, to keep these people alive. These people need to die. There is no reason they should ever be allowed out on the streets again, no matter the excuse they give.

Now, I think this can only be based on a case by case basis, and I think this case by case basis and that

Say a man kills five people in the middle of a mall and is then tazered and taken down. Shouldn't he have his throat cut, then and there. If there is enough evidence for it, why even waste the time. Why bother. These people are most likely deeply challenged and providing help for them does change the fact that in order to reach out they caused immense damage. Punishment should be harsh and quick. Executed convict's wealth should be donated to the state who invests in something that is to build a lasting legacy for the damage done, and to help ease the suffering of the victims and victims' relatives.

Some people will say that these criminals have forfeited their life for their actions. I disagree. These criminals did what they did for whatever reason they did it for. Thats no matter. Whats the matter is what has actually been done. These people shouldn't be allowed to live, morally, economically, socially, and logically.

LiptonCambell: What are you talking about? Innocent people get convicted of crimes they didnt commit- it happens. Not alot, but it does. And in the case of the death penalty, theres no turning back.

If 1 innocent person is murdered by the state for a crime they didnt commit- is that acceptable losses? What about ten? 100? 2000? Where does one create an line for ethical murder?

LiptonCambell: And I'm saying that not killing people is a powerful preventative measure against innocent people being killed for crimes they didnt commit.

If we lived in a world where everything was without a doubt 100% certain, maybe then(although this ignores the fundamental problem of ethics), but we don't- and throwing hypothecials and claiming the discussion exists in a world unlike our own doesnt change that. if the Death Penalty existed, mistakes would still be made in our justice system.

I mean, I could make a topic and claim that if the rocky mountains were made of cheese, should we harvest it- sure- but thats not the world we live in. And neither is your hypotheical.

singdawg: on super ambigious cases, the appeal process should last longer than a case that is more clear cut, to give time to reduce the probabilty of error. If that probabilty cannot be reduced enough, life in prison would be acceptable.

I mean you went all the way to Manchester to Hang the man and they went and reprieved him. You should get "cancellation money"'.

yawasupeh: no way...don't believe in death penalty AT ALL!...I hate the fact that some people will take the life of someone else...especially now, where it seems like no problem to shoot someone over something ridiculous like money or drugs....but I don't believe that they should die. No one has the right to invoke death on someone else. period. whether they "deserve" it or not. BTW lots of people are put away that are innocent, plus, some people can be rehabed. Give peace a change people!

applepicker: If it is beyond a reasonable doubt and the penalty fits the crime, then the death penalty should be applied. In fact, where someone earlier was talking about rape, I fully agree that any man who violates a woman and brutally rapes her should be executed. A project I'm working on shows that in Tennessee, there were fifty-five people executed because of rape. Forty-eight were executed for rape, four for rape and murder and there were three executed for "attempted" rape.

pljunkie: I don't agree with the death penality. The death penality is just telling people that sometimes killing is okay. Killing is never okay and should not be a form of punishment.

CandyRivers
CandyRivers: The problem with the death penalty is that it is not a deterrent. America executed as many people in a year as Saddam Hussein did. Yet murder was still commited.
Rape should not be a captal crime, the reason being women do sometimes lie about being raped. Plus you have the political side as well. Statistically you are much more likely to get the death sentence if black.
We dont have the death sentence here in England. Sometimes I do wish we did, I am just as guilty as the rest of you with a knee jerk reaction when a child gets murdered etc. I think the only true positive of the death sentence is for the state. It must be cheaper to kill someone than it is to keep them in prison.
Maybe, just maybe if we want a deterrent for crime, it should be compulsary that on a second offence the criminal be castrated. Not just for sy$ crimes. But also for robbery etc. That way we may also have the eugenics benefit in that the criminal classes will have reduced reproductive capability. Same for the women. Sterilisation for shoplifting, how about that one?

MattyD89: If you beleive in the death penelty, then you are no better then the person who you think deserves to die.

If you think your emotions are more important than his then you are no better then him.

If a man belevies his emotions are strong enough he needs to kill another man, and you see that and your emotions tell you to kill him, youre the same.

youre both killers.

killers need help, or to be in a controlled comfortabal living are outside of society if they cannot be helped.
