FRANCE. : CRO MAGNONS. : MAGDALENIANS. : 'The most impressive characteristics of the Upper Paleolithic cultures are their art traditions, both in the way of* decorated artifacts and by the way of* cave wall paintings. The earliest forms# of Paleolithic art dates from around 31, 000 years ago but the traditions reached their peak in the time of the* Magdalenian (17,000-11,000 years ago) , in the cave paintings of sites such as Lascaux and Altamira. The greatest of Upper Paleolithic cave art is to be found in southwest France and in# northern Spain, an area with a particularly dense population at the time. The function of cave art is unknown but it is thought to have played a religious role.' The truth is that they are all just guessing, even though a 'Shaman' was found buried prior time to this there is still no evidence that he nor anyone or anything up to the start of the Holocene actually had anything to do with religion in anyway shape or form. The (' ' ) Paragraph within this paragraph is actually from the book 'The Cassell Atlas of World History, The Ancient and Classical Worlds, Volume One' by John Haywood, Part 1, The Ancient World, 1.19 Upper Paleolithic Europe 35,000 years ago - 5000 BC.
