Spanish school offering a professional course in prostitution.

Sash Ria
Sash Ria: To Valencia, where students at Trabajo Ya!can, for a fee of €100, undergo a one-week “basic course in professional prostitution with maximum discretion”. Men and women learn how to use sex toys properly, what positions are best and the Kama Sutra.
Not everyone likes it. In May, the Valencian regional government’s Department of Justice and Social Welfare got all legal, claiming that school broke the lay by encouraging prostitution. The matter reached court. The government lost.

Teacher Brendan Morales says: “The course is positive. I want to give a guide to people who want to join this profession. Prostitution is still a taboo in Spain, but the whole world knows it exists. I want to inform prostitutes so they don’t depend on anyone but they do it for themselves.”

What??? "Prostitution is still a taboo in Spain". I'm not sure if anything involving the sex trade industry can ever be described as anything but taboo. So he is acting as some kind of guardian to them to ensure that their 'business' is freelance, without the need for a pimp? What an honorable man this is.
I'm not understanding though, if Prostitution is illegal in Spain, why the court has ruled in favor of this 'school'.

Comrade_: I think the pimping part is illegal, but other than that it is seems ok by law for a woman to do it once it is her own 'free-will'.

Sash Ria: I checked, prostitution is illegal there, so whether it involves a pimp or not, if money is involved its still soliciting and not just random casual sex.

I have no idea, maybe they're trying to swing it in a way that they'll teach them 'health and safety'.

Adolfs_Minge: That is ridiculous. And being a typical man I bet he has his "students" try out what they learn on him as well. Clever clever. I'm with you though on the whole not understanding how the school could win when it's clearly illegal. Prostitution is prostitution...There really is no gray area when you're paying for it.

Sarcastic Dots: When I went to Germany, the hotel I stayed in had a tourist's information guide, which included the location of "massage parlours" -- it wasn't exactly a seedy hotel either; in fact, it was just around the corner from Cologne cathedral.

However, the illegality of prostitution is complicated. In Britain, for example, prostitution is illegal, but the charges fall upon the person buying the service rather than the person supplying it -- the argument being that fining and belittling a prostitute will just make their situation worse, so it makes more sense to curtail it via attacking the buyers. I don't know if that's how it works in Spain, but it seems like an increasingly common practise.

Sash Ria: Ah I get what you're saying Adam. I really doubt though that it really has anything to do with the authorities caring if a prosecution or fine would make the prostitutes situation worse. I'm thinking more so the fact that they know they can't really profit from these women (in some cases men) and also that prisons are so over crowded already they just don't want them there.

Cresfresh: It sounds kinda like advanced sex ed. I don't really see a problem with it. He wants to offer it as a course to help people who want to go into prostitution? Go for it. If people don't want to do it, then just dont take the course. I don't see any inherent evil in this profession (I don't see anyone necessarily getting hurt). If someone wants to do this, and they want to learn more about it so they can be more successful, who is anyone to tell them they cant? I'm not a huge fan of people pushing their beliefs on others. I'm also not a fan of judging the character of others based on assumptions and your own personal moral code.

I don,t think it was as it has been translated as.

The Spanish were to poor to have prostitution as other places did and in most of Spain there was n,t any. It was for people who had to identify prostitutes but the Courts ruled something which meant talking about it was trading in it.

The Spanish were very very upright.

It is thought that the obscene behaviour of other countries drove many of the Spaniards to decide to kill people. In the very hot weather and bright light it is extremely offensive to have anything obscene nearby.
