Real men can cook (recipes) Azathoth: I have seen some posts by men stating they like to cook or want to cook for their better halves. I am the cook for my family, and I admire other guys wanting to "step up to bat" in the kitchen. This thread is for all to share recipes...easy, healthy, complex, indulgent...whatever variety you like. OCD_OCD: This one is a man favorite and is quick and easy. 1 lb lean hamburger meat 1 can French onion soup 2 bags chopped Romaine (or you can cut it yourself) 1 bag regular Fritos corn chips 2 tomatoes grated cheese Brown hamburger meat and when cooked add soup. Warm until soup is hot. Meanwhile: Add lettuce to a bowl, put tomatoes on top. Pour on warm hamburger/soup mixture. Put layer of Fritos on top Put layer of shredded cheese on top of that. (If you like your Fritos soggy, you can put the Frito layer on prior to the meat/soup mixture) The soup is the salad dressing and there seems to never be anything left. Azathoth: Today, I'm making a fairly fast and easy meal: Skinless boneless chicken breasts marinated in zesty Italian dressing, a splash of lemon juice,... chopped garden-fresh rosemary, thyme, and oregano...and a bit of sea salt and cracked black pepper to taste. Then grilled over the standard hardwood charcoal and previously soaked hickory chips. (cheap ingredients) Side dishes: Roasted red potatoes. Cube the potatoes (1 inch) and place in a decent sized bowl. Drizzle olive oil over them. Use a packet and 1/2 (depending on the amount of potatoes--amount for how many people you're serving) of Lipton Onion Soup Mix. Mix it all to coat well. Cook at 375 degrees until edges are slightly crisped and golden brown...insides cooked soft. Roasted asparagus. Rinse and chop hard ends of a bunch of asparagus. Arrange on a cookie sheet. Pour 1/2 olive oil, 1/2 butter mixed with crushed garlic, sea salt and cracked black pepper over asparagus. You can bake this while the potatoes are cooking and while grilling the chicken. After done...spritz the asparagus with a little bit of lemon juice. An arugula salad with tomato, onion, cucumber and julienne carrots is a nice (optional) compliment. Any accompanying drink will do. A slightly dry wine is best, but don't go too dry as the acid content of the marinades will get amplified. (Edited by Azathoth) Azathoth: No, this is simpler than it seems at first sight. It doesn't take much time, money, etc. Heck, there are good under $20 wines at most liquor stores that aren't of the "5 buck chuck" variety. Men can impress with this, and it's simple stuff. OCD_OCD: I thought Michael was starting out with the "how to boil water" stuff. LOL I'm sure he can cook anything he sets his mind to if he has the desire. Azathoth: Well, as I stated in the original post, these recipes can be "easy, healthy, complex, indulgent". So it is designed to run the gamut. If people are into giving their own recipes (as this is my menu for what I'm making my family today) on this thread then anyone can mix and match different things for their own pallets and convenience. Plus, some easy recipes can and should impress...much like Candy's quiche. Azathoth: No worries. Carry on. I just like the fact that the thread has contributors and (so far) is positive. Me likes. OCD_OCD: I'm going to write it down and put it on my Netflix list. Thanks! Right now I'm watching the Forsyte Saga. The series is great and is one of my favorite books. Azathoth: But when you do watch it, OCD...be sure to post here what you made for dinner that evening.
