Comrade_: No problem, I'm in Trinidad. The laws are not harsh, though a woman can report harassment. I think you exaggerated the situation, seeing he's not from that country and the cultures are different. Caning, fine, & imprisonment are harsh. Caning in schools is harsh. You can admit this much, he deserves a beating but not 2 years in prison, atleast some months & a lower fine and then sent back to the UK.

Comrade_: A minister calling for corporal punishment is different from having corporal punishment. You must understand the politics in my country to not bother with what Ministers say/promise.

It was abolished, I went through the system when it was still in play...being a naughty kid I experienced it too. I wouldn't strike my son he gives trouble but I think all children are different, one might respond to physical punishment as caning and others wouldn't. You just have to know the kid.

I remember talking to my friend and he was saying they should bring it back since kids don't behave and looking back on it, it wasn't as bad.

But if a country has there must a system in place to monitor teachers to make sure they'll not abuse it. In all truth and I'll be frank, the teachers today are not the same as those when I was attending primary school, there isn't the same passion, when I was spanked by my parents it wasn't with hate. I'm not sure I'd trust a stranger to do the same.
