Brit guy faces caning.

o_o Dilly o_o: In the paper today there is an article about a 34yrold British guy who grabbed a womens bottom at a night club in Singapore and has been charged with "outraging the modesty" of a 30yrold women (occurred April 3)

The guy is to attend court this Wednesday. The charges carries a maximum sentence of 2yrs in jail, a fine, a lashing across his bare buttocks with a rattan cane or a combination of the penalties.

Well that seem all a little excessive to me, what do you lot think?

Are we too soft in the western world?

Should we toughen up and be as it is in places like Singapore.

Hoodlum Forester: Singapore has a very low rate of crime. This is no doubt due to, not only a strong police presence, but also knowing that if you do the crime, you suffer the punishment. Throughout history, numerous societies have wandered in and out of a state of leniency. They allowed crime to flourish by allowing the criminals to get "off the hook" by bargaining or paying off judges and/or jailers. Is it better to be lenient, to try to reform a criminal mind psychologically instead of punishing him directly and publicly for his misdeeds? Who's to say? Perhaps if we followed the assorted religious texts that one way or another state "an eye for an eye" we could truly put the fear of retribution into a populace that more often than not laughs at law enforcement.*

Its far to easy to get off these days.

Maybe Singapore has it right, after all it is a very productive n wealthy place.
