Comrade_:
Lesson for Today:

Formations:
In all formations goes hand in hand with the player's position. In summary the formation is just the number of players in each area, starting form defenders (not counting in the goalkeeper). Example a 4-3-3 formation can represent: 4 defenders, 3 midfielders and 3 forwards.

Cool enough once one knows the formation then one kinda gets the idea of what type of approach the team will take, whether defensive or attacking. The point is to understand the main types of formation but first it is best to learn the positions (example, goalkeeper, forwards, sweeper, etc), their names and their purpose (will explain the main ones later on).

lavendar_star: Its about time they introduced it, considering its the 21st century. However, it still may take some of the fun out of the game with the debates n arguments if the ball went over the line.

Comrade_: haa true I guess there is that, a bit of uncertainty is good for the sport but in serious matches it is important.

lavendar_star: Yes in big tournaments n league matches. That's what we thought in England when the ball seemed to go over the line in one of the matches in the last World cup n defo the Ukrainians in their match against us in Euro 2012 lol.

They are quite stuck in their ways at UEFA so they may not bring it in but most likely they will, most other sports have it, so why not the most popular sport in the world.

Comrade_: na once the IFAB agrees then it will be put down in the Football laws.
All they need is 6 votes of the 8 board members; 4 from the 4 reps at FIFA, 1 from England, 1 from Northern Ireland, 1 from Wales,1 from Scotland. UEFA will be under FIFA as CONCACAF etc. so they'll be under the laws too.

lavendar_star: Its been voting in. "It follows a unanimous decision by the International FA Board in Zurich."

"FIFA president Sepp Blatter admitted he had changed his mind about goal-line technology after Frank Lampard's disallowed goal for England v Germany in the 2010 World Cup, and highlighted again after Ukraine were denied a goal against England in Euro 2012 despite the ball having crossed the line.
Blatter insisted however that there would be no move to introduce any video replays or other technology to rule on other decisions such as offsides, fouls or diving. He said: "Other than the goal-line technology, football must preserve its human face."

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/goal-line-technology-gets-green-164739076.html

I agree with Blatter that football needs to retain its human face even though maybe with offside rulings (which i still dont get lol) you could introduce technology but I think decisions made by the referee and the linesmen/women helps with the drama of the game.

Nicotina2: Wonder if they will put a light on top of the goal post that flashes if the ball crosses the line.
Only after a season will we be able to make an educated decision on if the goal-line tech adds or takes away from the game. I'm erring on the side of caution with my view, I think football with human error is what makes the game all the more exciting to watch.

Comrade_: Yes, imagine if everything was strict, no fighting in el clasicos haa people look forward to certain things, as players arguing with referees, managers coming on the field to argue, making fun of certain regular divers when it plays over in slow motion. I read also that they're introducing head coverings as an option for religious players.
