Best rock guitarist (Page 5) kalliades: slow hand deserves the number 2 spot. hendrix, while being a great guitarist, is enormously over rated. has everyone forgotten mark knopfler? he may be a bit of an arrogant tonsil, but he still owns the most famous riff of all time: money for nothing GreaseMonkey: ~sOmEbOdY's gotta say it~ Allan Collins of Lynyrd Skynyrd. >The Free Bird solo. That was all him back before they had two lead guitarists. DrDrifter: Kalliades you certainly know how to put an amateur fool musicmouth in his place there. I love knopfler. I collected everything of his as a teen- and no-one else! Please excuse my ignorance of Slow Hands but in my defence I was away for quite a bit- like a decade. I'll check him out pronto. The reason I have Hendrix first is not only fantastic music but also context. It wasn't easy to be black in those bad old days but the way he expressed it makes it personal to me. GreaseMonkey: Jimi Hendrix is so damned over rated it makes me SICK!!! In high school, ALL of the other guitarists used to tell me that "You aren't a *real* guitarist unless you're influenced by Hendrix. I knew that Hendrix was BOGUS from day one, and I was still a better guitar player than most of those fools. He wasn't good at all. Get over it. Fender guitars sound like shit and play even worse. GreaseMonkey: One of my personal favorites, even though he was unremarkable, is Carl Wilson of The Beach Boys. My all time favorite guitarist though is Mark Tremonti from Alter Bridge/Creed/Solo tallboy61: after a bottle of whiskey and 8 cans of guiness there is only one winner ...
