Jim Morrison Novalee67: Does anyone here like Jim Morrison,front man to the greatest band ever, The Doors?! I think he is just so great, his poetry and lyrics are outstanding. He is outstanding. I mean, he's been dead for decades and he's still casuing trouble!  PTBO52: I was a child of the 60's and The Doors were fantastic. Jim Morrison was clever but had a real dark side. Everyone said it was the drugs but I believe alcohol did him in. Some of his songs were chosen by his label and he didn't want to do them but ones like "love me two times" and "Riders on the Storm" were great. I still have a poster from 1969 of him and I treasure it. I could see a touch of Morrison in Michael Hutchens of INXS. May they RIP.  Nosferatu: Morrison was average and overrated. He had a few good singles but a lot of his songs were outlets for his sad and dark life. Van Morrison is a hundred times better. PTBO52: Van Morrison was great too. You had to be around in the 60's too really catch the drift of The Doors. Just the time was different everything was different then. I'm really glad I was around then. Music was more powerful. I don't think there was anything average about The Doors. PeopleAreStrange: I agree 100% there was nothing average about The Doors.I have every album ever made and every book of poetry by Jim Morrison.Alot of ppl only know the songs that were radio played and the same songs still are.But some of their best music never made it on the radio(Awake,American Prayer,Stoned Immaculate,Strange Days,Unknown Solider,Spanish Caravan,Spy,Peace Frog,Waiting for the Sun,Moonlight Drive,Hyacinth House,Gloria).Funny thing is one of my least favorite songs by The Doors was one of their most popular(Light my Fire)Which actually wasnt wrote by Jim.I admit its not everybody cup of tea. But there is a reason that you cant go into music places at the mall and book stores without seeing somthing with Jims face on it.To me Jim always will be a poet and a musician that cant be replaced.And his music will be listened to for years to come.jmo PTBO52: Courtly: weird as Light my Fire wasn't one of my favourites either. Way too commercialized. Loved LA Woman, Break on Through, and of course Riders.  RocktheFlaminCowboy: I read the book on his life and death and have very mixed emotions. He wasn't a genius but a very disturbed man that brought his feelings out more than the average artist does. He was definitely a misfit and did many strange things. He was basically on a path of self destruction. If you haven't read a book on him, do so. You may be very surprised if you pictured yourself doing the same outrageous things. Some of the facts in one book points to him setting up his own death because of so many conflicting statements at the time of his death. It is thought to be false though. Lots to wonder about. chandy01: Yes we did! You were not around then or you wouldn't say that. Morrison got so pissed off at everything because the record label company wouldn't let him do his thing. By contract he was forced to play what they wanted him to play for the almighty $.
