what's yr fav Stephen King adaptation miss gege: the Stand...his best in my opinion Green Mile..so close hard to make up my mind the Mist ...tho i loathe creepy crawly things Carrie ....excellent Needful Things Dream Catcher I may/I know i've missed many....so list away Geoff: The Green Mile was good, but just a little overdone (too much Hollywood, not enough heart). The Shining was good (I'm a big fan of Kubrick), but it strayed too far from the book, IMO. For the best adaptations, I think you always have to look at the short stories (such as 1408). The ending of the Mist pissed me off. IamEggman: Misery and Delores Claiborne were good adaptations. Secret Window wasn't too bad either. I also liked Salem's Lot. The boy scratching at the window was creepy. miss gege: damn i have all of those Eggman, just forgot....i however, couldn't watch Misery (shivers) just too much for me aussiekitty: the Dark Half ... the way it made u take a look at what you could be? the Langoliers... pending doom always does it for me Christine....car from hell 1408.....makes u decide to never stay anywhere but at home Running man... schwartzy at his ..er worst Your all forgetting one...collaboration I admit but ... SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION... brilliant film Anne aka Mags: I'm just going to say... The Stand - although I'm not a fan of Molly Ringwold Salem's Lot - still haven't seen it in its entirety Pet Semetery - toddlers with knives? [shudder] It - just cos I loved the book so much lois_lane: Cats Eye Needful Things(book was way better) Cujo Stand By Me (even tho it was a novella by him *The Body*) CreepShow (Love the comics of it) Carrie (Ick the Prom Scene poor girl) Silver Bullet Firestarter (To name some more) lois_lane: Maximum Overdrive Thinner(love this one) Sleepwalkers (which could have been so much better) aussiekitty: The dark tower would be fantastic if made into a mini series, always got lost in picturing it, probably too many narrow minded ppl that would compare it to the LOTR though. Duma Key think you could play with scenes alot with that book. Cmon, who didnt wonder what it would be like to lose use of an arm and become an artist on a beautiful island?! lois_lane: Would be interesting if he did *Under The Dome* I havent finished reading it yet but its not bad sooo far. Kind of freaky. jinx32: I didn't know about that either. Two more are Sometimes they come back and Rose Red. Rose Red would have to be one of my favourites. Stephen King also has a cameo role. notsohardman: What you guys on about Shawshank Redemption is one of the best movies ever made - that is by far the tops I also like Stephen Kings IT I love that too. aydryn: Shawshank Redemption Hearts in Atlantis The Green Mile Carrie Misery (the play, never saw the movie) I feel like I'm missing some. Most of the movie adaptations piss me off because they don't capture the essence of the stories. Personally, I cannot wait for the Dark Tower movie, which (last I heard) is due to come out sometime in 2013!!!!! We should start a thread on the WORST Stephen King adaptations. jinx32: Rose Red would have to be my favourite. I loved It and the Stand. The shining completely freaked me out as a child. So many movies and i like them for all different reasons Koko_Krunch: All Stephen King books are the same. Youve read one yove read them all. He is an overated pulp fiction writer, the same as Dan Brown. StuckInTheSixties: Right ... "The Shining" was nothing but a reworked version of "The Shawshank Redemption" ... or vice versa. And "The Dead Zone" is identical to "Cujo." Right ... Koko_Krunch: SITS has that typcal liberal attitude 'everyone is allowed an opinion, as long as it doesnt conflict with mine!' The point i was trying to make, is that his work is very derivative. I understand that he is a genre writer and writes for a particular audience. However, I findd most of his work to be uninspiring and mediocre. He writes without any depth and most of his work are nothing but homages. Id rather stick with Lovecraft. StuckInTheSixties: Koko_Krunch says: "SITS has that typcal liberal attitude 'everyone is allowed an opinion, as long as it doesnt conflict with mine!' " What the heck did that my statement have to do with liberalism, conservatism or any other ism? That reply was based this statement of yours: "All Stephen King books are the same." I provided examples that contradict that statement. Koko_Krunch says: "The point i was trying to make, is that his work is very derivative. I understand that he is a genre writer and writes for a particular audience. However, I findd most of his work to be uninspiring and mediocre. He writes without any depth and most of his work are nothing but homages." That was your point? Those thoughts have little to do your previous statement. The only similarity is that, as you've pointed out, he's a genre writer. That, and that both statements are negative. "Derivative"? Derived of what? "Homages"? Homages to what? | Movies Chat Room Similar Conversations |
