jrrock: Yeah i have problems staying away from the bad stuff also but u have to decide what is more important, short lasting satifaction of the food or the long lasting satisfaction of looking great and being healthy

I actually used to be overweight but decided getting fit was more important.
Now i eat very healthy during the week and eat some bad stuff on the weekend that way i enjoy the bad stuff even more because it comes less frequently. Just stick it out until u get fit and then u can afford to have some good stuff every so often

debbiewheeler: There is a program that many people have had success with. It's easy and effective. You don't feel hungry. They are meal replacements for 5 days. It's nutritional, too. It's called RESET. It's for 5-days. Lose 4-14 lbs in 5 days. After the 5-days there is a maintenance program. Check out my website at http://weightlossnutritionskincare.usana.com

deafenedbyoursilence: I lost 50 lbs in the past year three years. My advice is to not to try to lose weight quickly because when you go into it with that expectation you are more likely to give up when it doesnt happen or return to your old habits. I suggest that you make a list of things you can change in your life to become healthier and then make those changes one at a time as you become more comfortable sticking to them. Maybe instead of restricting pop completely you can allow yourself 1 a day and then bring that down to 1 a week. Otherwise when you mess up you may have a free for all. I know that is why it took me so long to lose my weight. I hope this helps!

Anne aka Mags: DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITHOUT SEEING YOUR DOCTOR!!! I am overweight, but am losing weight slowly. The first thing is talk to your doctor, then change your thought perception ie. you are not dieting, you are adopting a healthy eating lifestyle.

There are many tablets and powders and meal supplements/replacements, but sometimes they can counter act other drugs you may be on eg. antidepressants. Also, I made the mistake once of being on a 12wk meal replacement diet. This instigated my getting gall stones as I returned to 'normal' food. So be very careful.

smik43: don't depend too much on pills because they can have side effects or long term effets... u never know what could happen.. I suggest to just stick with dieting and try to stay away from food, by distracting urself from it or going out to places so u won't stay at home and won't have to think about whether going on the kitchen or not. Try to hang out with ur friends, listen to music. Keep as distracted as possible to keep your mind away from food! If u get hungry, try to just eat fruits or vegetables with "small portions" of the rest. I love vegetables so if u do too just fill up most of the plate with it while trying small bits of the other stuff to make it taste better. U'll get full without consuming too many calories or fat by eating most of the healthy stuff! Try to drink more often than eating since u can pee it out and get it out of ur body easier and faster. Also, try to stay as active as possible! do any kind of activity that requires u to move a lot and that tires u. Good Luck!

LookingSpecifically
LookingSpecifically: I have a trick I use when I feel like eating bad stuff.
I tell myself ok, I'll eat it, but I'll make sure I want it first.

I make a bowl of Fibre1 with milk or soy milk, eat it, and then if I want I eat the bad thing.
The fibre satisfies you so often you won't want to eat the bad thing anymore. If you still do, at least it will take longer to digest and won't harm you as much. (for example, if your bad thing is chocolate, instead of raising your blood sugar levels as fast as it would, with presence of fibre in your system it takes longer to be absorbed).

AussieNerd
AussieNerd: You can loose weight very easily [I have lost 30kg/65lb in the past year], just by making a few small changes to your diet and your lifestyle. [I've also cut 7 minutes of a 3 mile walk]

1. Reduce the number of snacks you eat [I was eating more snacks than ordinary food]. Also change the type of snacks you eat - have more fruit [apples, oranges, kiwi fruit, grapes, melons] and nuts [cashews and almonds, try to avoid peanuts, Brazil nuts and macadamias]. Cut down the number of snack bars and sugar sweets you eat.

2. Cut down the amount of sugar and salt you add to your food. You really only need 1 teaspoon of sugar in your tea or coffee and none in your chocolate. Only add a small amount of salt to your food. Avoid drinking soft drinks [a glass of coke has 8 teaspoons of sugar in it and the diet versions are not much better].

3. Eat more fish and vegetarian meals. You only need to eat meat 4 times a week. East fish twice a week and have a day without meat [it will help]. You can substitute your meat requirement with mushrooms or beans or tofu.

4. Cut down your portion size. For a female, you meat selection should be about the size of your palm and no thicker than your thumb [150-200g red meat, 200-250g chicken or fish]. Fill our plate with vegetables [4-5 different ones] and either pasta, rice or potato (preferably steamed or boiled). Any sauce you add, should be less than 1/2 cup across the whole plate and less if tomato or BBQ sauce id added.
A males proportion is 20% more than a female [so guys avoid eat that 32oz steak, 8-12oz is plenty]

5. Limit the amount of alcohol you drink - a max 6 standard drinks per week. If possible avoid beer or spirits with mixers [wine and straight spirits are ok in moderation]. Remember to drink a glass of water for every alcoholic drink you have.

5. Exercise - leave the car at home and walk to the shops [taking a backpack will make it easier to carry your shopping home] or park the car a couple of miles away and then walk. You can also do activities such as swimming, cycling or just getting out in the yard with the kids [a 40 min session of kicking the football with your son, is the same as walking 3 miles]. Activities don't have to be strenuous, as long as you are building up a sweet. Remember to hydrate as you go and have fun.

Food does not have to be bland. Gourmet cooking is possible. Just avoid the crap.

Think this way and you'll loose weight.

piazzolla: I tried different programs but I like the Calorie Counter Database better. It's free too.
The main thing w losing weight is not to give up. You will get off track a couple of times, probably, but all you need to do is believe in yourself and start again. It takes time to change your habits that you've developed over years.
Stress relieving tactics are very helpful too.
