Corwin: Drinking unpasteurized milk can be very dangerous. Raw milk is alive, and carries all the antibodies that a calf would need for it's immune system. Farmers often drink their own cow's milk unpasteurized, and they already have a resistance to it... but if anybody else drinks it they are very likely to have a really bad day.

Several years ago a farmer friend of mine gave me a glass of raw milk, and went on and on about how much better it is that way. Some hours later I had a fever of 104, cold sweats, and was vomiting every 20 minutes. Some hours after that I was hospitalized, and was being treated for severe dehydration with Dramamine and fluids fed into me intravenously. A couple of days of that, and I was myself again.

Raw milk is awesome.

ohnonotthatguy: Pure fresh milk is the best for you, once your immune system has weeded out the bugs from your body from drinking pasteurized milk and other chemicals from processed foods and drinks you will be just fine.

Corwin: "bugs in your body from drinking pasteurized milk"

WTF???

Pasteurizing is simply a process of heating up the milk to "kill" the "bugs"... if anybody has a rational argument as to how this is a bad thing, I'd be glad to hear it.

ohnonotthatguy: No argument on that
Natural pure milk straight from the cows utter is warm, killing also bad bacteria, when extra pasteurization occurs it removes more nutritious ingredients from the milk.
If the cow is feeding raw milk to her calf it must be good

Corwin: Are you a calf?

And sorry, but 98.5 F does NOT kill anything... the pasteurizing process needs about 180 F to do the job.

And there is no evidence that heating milk to 180 F removes ANY nutritional value from the milk. Look at the nutrition guide on the side of the package... all the good stuff is still there.

What I don't understand is WHY some people need to believe that raw milk is good for you... all the scientific evidence suggests otherwise.
I guess by that logic we should eat raw meat too... wolves do it all the time... I suppose Salmonella, E coli and Trichinosis is good for us too?
