TheHidden1: I just say "Hi, how are you?" but that's all I do, I never how how to start a conversation on here without coming across as rude or someone I'm not. Maybe i'm thinking about it too hard

MercuryDragon: To be honest, I usually ignore strangers when they ask how I am. It feels insincere because they don't really know me to care how I am doing. It feels like nothing more than a blank opener.

If you want to initiate a conversation, talk to them publicly first in a room, on a forum, or on a mutual friend's post. Pay attention to what things other people like to talk about and then join in discussing interests you share in common or would like to learn more about. People are more apt to want to talk to you if they see that you're like minded and have things in common. This gives others the opportunity to have an idea of what kind of person you are and how you interact with people.

Just flow with the conversations you see, joke around, and most importantly have fun. Eventually, you'll end up taking your conversations to a PM or inbox message without even thinking about it too hard and voilà! You've initiated conversation that isn't just, "Hi, how are you?"

Hope this helps
