Does anyone think that chatters who spend too much time here lose a grip in real life and turns into pseudo intellects? Nylt: Hello, I am a chat addict. Sometimes its really..really annoying ending up here when you dont want to. Trust me, I have tried alot of things to keep me away. But it just doesnt help sometimes. I have seen many people, met many, talking about world changes, measures to turn this world into a better world and all the heavy topics they can possibly talk about to show themselves as intellects but I wonder what they do after leaving here? Probably drive a truck and spew shit. Any opinions on such people? Please dont say "Chatters are that way. You should know" blablah. Nylt: That'd be expensive but thanks. And if someone is sharing something, they are not necessarily asking for an advice. Nylt: Well, no. I have some really productive days. Plus this topic isnt for discussing my addiction. You are the one to say that. Plus this topic is about how people spending alot of time on chat and saying stuff which barely makes sense in outside world. Its not about me. Stop acting so childish. Idonthaveausername: Chatters for the most part are here for entertainment and to socialize with others. They might share ideas, be silly, perverted, troll, you name it!!! SOME of them might lose a grip of reality. By losing a grip, I mean that they are more focused on who they are online (their persona, beliefs, etc) rather than focusing on what matters: who they are in real life. Being on the net provides a "filling" for a hole in their life which can lead to he or she having a false identity of themselves on the net. Then when they leave, they are empty (theoretically speaking). One may keep coming back because the net chatting is providing a stimulation, on in which you cannot achieve in real life. Or perhaps you can achieve it from real life but you want more of it on the net as well. Now, there are some chatters here to express their ideas for intellectual stimulation (or they are talking about something that actually matters whether it's a passion, or an idea, knowledge, etc). They may seek this type of stimulation because they cannot talk to others in real life about it or have anyone to talk to. SOME are genuine intellectuals. The way they act online is the same way they are in real life. They have ambition and drive. If they are talking about doing good in the world they are doing it or they are currently working towards that goal. Now, what do they do when they leave the net? Well, keep in mind they are (generally speaking) normal people too!!! They work, clean, probably have kids, and basically have a day to day normal life. Even though these SOME intellectuals are not in a position to exercise their ideas and plans (no matter how big it is) they still like to express them!!! When they chat away online, they like that someone else cares and gives feedback and/or thoughts about what they have to say and that they can express themselves, which is also giving them self satisfaction. There are others that have a false identity (as mentioned before) and they pretend to be an intellectual when in fact they are not one in real life. They will pretend to be a certain way or to blend in with other intellectuals. This could be because of lack of self acceptance (not accepting that you are not an intellectual) and wanting to be something your not, or trolling (being an intellectual but go about it in an immature manner, perhaps in the process, looking ignorant). I hope I answered your question. It feels like there is more I could say on the topic but I am done for now. Idonthaveausername: That does not mean they are not intellectuals. They are intellectuals because of their mind and they way in which they carry themselves, not their job. But a fake one people have on chat sites doesnt have any value outside of it. You do not know how they grew up, where they have been in life, what goals they have for the future etc. It seems like to me, correct me if I am wrong, that you are making assumptions. You do not know their situation or the difficulties they encounter on the day to day basis. ^_^ Nylt: But atleast, you dont google difficult words to make your statement over anything more impressive, ISW. |
