Calling him a sellout because he's "trying [to] reach a different audience..." for more $$$" seems to be quite an ignorant comment in my eyes. The reason being, I don't think there is any interview or proof of the man stating, "I needed to make more cash." if there is, that's my mistake and you can stop reading here if you want. A LOT of emcees and rappers alike have switched up their styles for a short period of time if not completely. For instance, Common and Talib Kweli made "experimental" CDs and they were almost completely dismissed for it. Even KRS-ONE threw people a curveball when he did that spiritual CD; prior he's stated and/or implied that he believed religion is a way to control the masses. Another example is Cee-Lo Green and Andre 3000. Both have changed their sounds. Cee-Lo formed Gnarls Barkley with danger Mouse which is completely different than Goodie Mob and the Dungeon Family sound. Andre 3000 did the Love Below. Even Little Brother, one of the best groups by far dropped 9th wonder because they felt they were falling behind the times. Even Nas went through that phase where he was touching on everything. They wanted a new sound. Just about every artist goes through a period when they try something new. I'm not saying they did it for money, maybe they did maybe they didn't. It might have even been in the back of their minds. However, what we all need to remember is that, as an ARTIST, you experience different things and you may want to express them in different fashions. That's one of the reasons MIA is no longer making music and is the most likely reason that DeTox has been on hold forever. That's my opinion on the matter. Now don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a dance song, but putting THAT on the air is just plain wrong. Compare that talib's song "hot thing". He's not talking about oral swz so all of the little kiddies can go buy it. He was talking about a fine girl he meet that he's slowly falling in love with. But which one got the most radio play? Not even Lupe's superstar song stood a chance. Doesn't that tell you something? He didn't make it for the special little lady in his life. He didn't make it promote non-violence. I didn't make it to encourage kids to stay in school and don't do drugs. So unless the guy is completely nuts and spits out whatever he thinks without thought, what other logical reason could there be except for the CREAM? No one has their own opinion anymore. I don't force my family members and friends to listen to the music that I like. Why? Because everybody's got there own style of music that they love and enjoy. If you are not mature enough to accept that everybody in the hip-hop world doesn't think like you, you seriously need to consider going back to listening to nursery songs.
