Writer's Notebooks StolenHeart: How many times have you been out someplace, an idea hit you, a phrase, a sentence you overheard, and you have nothing to write it down on? When I go somewhere, I always have a small memo pad in my laptop case or purse, even my camera bag. That way if an idea strikes at a random time, I can write it down. I also keep several other notebooks. Divided into sections, these can serve as great tools for future projects or current ones. For example, in one notebook, I keep ideas and info for childrens books. I once saw a pair of birds doing the most amazing thing. It is now recorded in a notebook, and perhaps will become a good childrens storybook. Over time, you may accumulate dozens of notebooks, which will be full of useful material. Another thing many writers do, is keep a personal journal. Believe it or not, some information from your daily life, might make a great addition to a project you are working on. Gumshoe .38: I am lucky...If i come up with a phrase, scene or catch word I remember it...I often think up entire monologs while i am walking about...talking aloud to myself.... StolenHeart: wow, my mind is always working overtime. There's no way I could ever remember all the things that come to me. montsse: I get what you mean. In this case technology helps great time and the old fashion way also. But what about when it comes in your dream? montsse: Even though the post started with the title: Notebooks, using this kind of like a technic to write. I got these two other ideas: One.- It is to set yourself a dateline when you start something. This may not create inspiration, but it is good. Just imagine this, this writing thing becomes a reality, then you would have for sure a dateline. So if you can't get through your own dateline how can you do it in the real world? Two.- You see how a dancer needs to know all kind of dances? Well so does the writer right? Well I got this idea, there's a technic that maybe I didn't invent that is using pictures, photos as inspiration, to get what I mean check out later on my blog here on Wire and I will let you know. Name of the blog to look for? Writing in Action montsse: No need to find that particular blog because even though I think it could be a really great, cool idea I don't have time for it. Let me just explain here what it was about: Well I said that dancers need to know all kind of dance right? Well writers too in a way if they see their writing as a kind of job thing. So here it is what was going to be the plan about. I was planning to search for a photo, post it and say get inspire, here is the dateline, but the inspiration in this particular case must be in the shape of a poem or I could say also in shape of a comic, short novel, a play, article, biography, etc. So I guess the idea here is to challenge yourself to do all kinds of stuff. Maybe later on we can be part of the same plan, that is if you want to. StolenHeart: Sit down once a week with your notebook and let your mind wander. Let memories, smells, thoughts, events, sensations etc take over. write down anything that comes to mind. This is your private notebook, so nothing is out of the question, a 53xual experience, an event that created lifelong anxiety, the sound of your baby crying the first time are all great items to add. Over the course of just a few weeks, you will have a great deal of material to aid you in your writing for years to come. Keep adding to it. SecularSarah: When I don't feel like working on an actual story or essay, I'll "make notes" (usually free writing, or character sketches) in my notebook. angel: I come up with ideas coming in my head. i just srart writing and everything starts popping in my head. then as soon as i write one thing another comes to mind. i have so many poems I can hardly keep up anymore. i love writing.it keeps me busy.Makes my mind work. It is just good for me. It really helps me. Eyes_of_a_Stranger: Some people pack around voice recorders. I used to carry a memo pad and pen, but they always wandered away from my pocket. Those spirals are pretty bouncy. They just hop out whenever they feel the need. If I weren't trying to stop smoking, empty cigarette boxes work great. Most of the time a person just ends up losing that "great" line or train of thought. All of my journals are chock-full of folded up notebook paper, where the journal wasn't handy, but a sticky note or notebook paper were. ammosolay: I write what is going on in my dreams and the events happening around me and by linking them to build the map of my future. Hyenablood: I've been having writer's block for the last few years I've got tons of story ideas in several books, but am finding it hard to get into the writing proccess. | hobbies Chat Room Similar Conversations |
