GreaseMonkey: 70 Chevelle SS 454 LS6

Corvette is a sports car

F*rd Mustang & Chevy Camaro are Pony cars

Charger, Challenger, etc are over-sized Pony cars but under-sized Muscle Cars

Thread is called muscle car, so I say the Heavy Chevy Chevelle.

If you throw technicalities out the window: 1969 Camaro ZL1. Factory race car.

straywlf: Where did it start? 1964 GTO. A mid size car with a big block. That started the muscle car era. After that they all tried to out do each other more and more. They raced before that but it got serious at that point. I owned a 64 65 66 and a 67. Id kill to get my hands on a 70 with a 428 in it.

texan2023: @grease A muscle car is an undersize car with an oversize engine by definition. The Charger, challenger etc are true muscle cars. Otherwise i agree. Mustang is a pony car, muscle car is a bit of a strech. Same with the camaro. The shelbys were muscle cars I'd say but being a ford affiliate makes it somehow less of a musclecar, in my mind. I will say that if it's Yenko it's muscle, even if it's a camaro. A GT40 isnt even close to being a muscle car. It's a race car. Fairlane, sure. Good muscle. Mustang, not really. Closer to a sports car. GT/GT40, not even close. Basically a supercar.

texan2023: And my idea of the ultimate muscle car is the 1970 Plymouth Superbird/Dodge Charger Daytona. I like the 1970 Challenger too.
