Looking to meet Australians

This summer ive decided im gonna buy a one way ticket to Melbourne or Sydney and make my way to the other city(depending on where I fly to).I want to meet some people here so it can possibly make my trip more exciting easier and cheaper.
Im not cheap,ive got a secure and a well paying job, i just want to take a trip like this so I can say ive experienced Australia...and not like 99% of touris
