Annoying to hear that even though 30 new planets were discovered outside our solar system, not one is thought to obtain life!!

'Obtain' life????????? Any Guys interested in NASA can if they have Apple Iphones download a free app that allows you to follow NASA missions minute by minute. You can even have an up to the second count down to NASA launches. So now you can all have your own "10, 9, 8, 7, 6," countdown with your pals at work or school.

I would love to know how a determination is made that a planet does not have life when its too far away for a probe. Far as I know, its never been completely ruled out that planets/moons we can get some information on have no life. After all, a planet does not need to be able to support human, or earth-like, life to possibly have something. Really, all a planet needs is a stable atmosphere and liquid, in the very least, from what I understand. Titan, a moon in this system, has an atmosphere and potential liquid, though its unlikely to be water, from what I've read. I can't imagine a life form that could survive on Venus, but there are earth-based life forms that live near black smokers in the ocean. That was once considered impossible, so who knows.

An Astronomer did some checking with Flu outbreaks on a map (I know this sounds like Hollywood stuff). He came to the idea that some of the Viruses actually fell to Earth from Space. He reckons that the Virus most probably hitched a ride here on Comet Dust. Am not qualified to dispute with the guy, but it sounds impossible for something to survive the vacuum and radiation of Space. However the intense cold (-100 and lower) would preserve some thing for ever, that is far colder than a freezer at home.

No life forms on these planets? That would depend one's opinion of what a life form actually is. That is a bold statement. I will believe it when they show me the pics and video of the planet's surface.

"I would love to know how a determination is made that a planet does not have life when its too far away for a probe."

Usually because the limited information we have on these plants suggest to us that no life as we know it can exist on the planets. That is, they may be too close or too far away from their sun to support life, or the planets may be gaseous instead of terrestrial. That's not to say that they wouldn't love to find life on these planets, just that as far as we can tell with our current technology and search criteria we can detect no life. Of course our understanding of life and the conditions that can bring it about increases all the time.

I am sure we'll find life on other planets--maybe even in our own solar system!

the hubble tellscope just reached out to the farthest yet .
science can now claim well deserved credit for this new discovery.

scentient entities will not exist untill prooven by scientific methods .
untill then " life will remain faith/belief or a scientific question mark .

if 30 new planets have been discovered that is cool probably they should think about changing the curriculum of most Africa and south American because i known they still use the 6 plant for study.

Ack! For real? Uranus was discovered in the 18th century, Neptune in the 19th...
