I spend all day at work using Windows for software development. I run my websites on a Linux server in my basement. All my personal computers at home are Macs. I've worked as a developer for Windows, Linux, and other Unix-type OSes.
My preferences: * Mac for desktop or laptop. * Linux as a server. * Windows only if I have to and to stay well rounded.
My bro works as a physics prof and he recently switched from a Windows laptop to a Mac for work. He's happier than ever and says his productivity has improved. When I switched from Windows to Mac OS at home 6 years ago I estimated the time I spent on troubleshooting and system maintenance went from around 100 hours per year down to almost zero.
You'll find that most people who bad-mouth Mac OS haven't used it much (recently). There are some exceptions but that generally seems to be the case.
