Bullying? Seriously?

Posted March 27 2009 09:49 AM   Mood: Annoyed

I keep getting emails about people with 'hurt feelings' because they are being 'bullied'. The interesting thing is that the people that message me neither block the so-called 'bullies' or report them using the report link/button...

We can not ban someone because they "hurt your feelings". We simply can't operate like that. We have our terms of use posted on the bottom of every page - we will only ban people that break those rules and at our own discretion.

This isn't a schoolyard. We are all adults here. Someone upsets you, block them. It is simple as that. If they seriously cross the line, report them and leave it to us.

Let's all do our best to keep life simple and fun

Note to people that pick fights online: Seriously? GROW UP.

Add a chat to the other boring sites you use

Posted March 6 2009 09:35 AM

I know, not all sites are as cool as Wireclub. Don't worry though, we are here to help.

If you have your own site (a blog maybe) or a profile somewhere else (BoringSpace or LameBook) you can now add your own custom chat room to it.

Just go to:

Wireclub Link: Chat-Rooms

Create your room and then click on the 'Share this room' link.

This is Wireclub saving the web from extreme boredom.

Need a little inspiration?

Sometimes all we need is a little push to get things started. Now when you go to your blog you will find a little 'inspiration' question to help you choose a topic for your next post.

Now you have no excuses for not blogging so get right to it!

Please leave a comment with any questions you would like to see added to the list

Posted January 24 2009 10:40 PM   Mood: Calm

Hey everyone,

We are currently working hard on the next version of Wireclub but we have decided to release a couple of features ahead of schedule

If you look at the top navigation bar, you will find a new menu called "Fun & Games" - be sure to check it out!

Tell us what you think: Posting links on Wireclub

Posted January 2 2009 10:38 PM

We are considering the idea of allowing users to post links on Wireclub. I am not sure if it is the best idea because of spammers but I would like to hear from the community about it.

Should we allow people to post links on messages, forum posts and blogs?

Yes/No and Why

Happy New Year!

Posted December 31 2008 04:17 PM

I just would like to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR

Sorry I haven't been around to reply to your messages, I am taking this week off to relax and recharge for 2009. We have a huge list of new features planned for the new year - it is going to be crazy

How can you become a Wireclub Moderator?

Posted December 22 2008 02:43 PM

Many people have been asking me how can they become a Wireclub Mod so I decided to make a post about it

These are the current requirements:

1. You must have no adult content on your profile/blog.

2. You must agree that all your messages will be recorded at all times - it is bye bye privacy

3. You must agree to behave at all times - that means never curse and never get into fights.

4. You must agree to always be nice to the newcomers, even when they ask silly questions.

5. You must agree to not protect your friends - if they misbehave you must take action!

7. You must agree to never act on personal reasons - you should only ever kick spammers and bullies.

8. Being a mod is not a job, you must still have fun while on Wireclub

I am willing to give anyone a chance to become a moderator, provided they are doing it for the right reasons. We are looking for people like our Head Moderator Cash that believes Wireclub is worth protecting and are willing to trade-in some freedom for the power of making sure that our community remains clean and friendly.

If you are honestly interested (for the right reasons), feel free to contact me and we can discuss it further

Chat problem fixed!

Posted December 14 2008 04:40 PM   Mood: Happy

Many of you have complained to us about a chat problem where you would enter a chat room and never get any messages - it would be like the room was quiet with no one ever speaking.

It was a hard problem to fix because we were not able to reproduce it but it seems like we have finally figured it out!

We need your help to make sure it is fixed. If it happens to you from this moment on, please send me a message

So, the new chat is up

Posted December 6 2008 03:40 PM   Mood: Calm   Listening to: Juno Reactor

So the new chat has been up for about a week now. Considering how terribly wrong things can go when you release a new service, I must say I am quite pleased with the results

We are not done however. The whole point of replacing the old chats (by Userplane and Meebo) was so we would have control over our chat platform. If you are wondering what this means for you - it is simple:

We can do anything we want with this new chat.

I will repeat it for dramatic effect:

We can do anything we want with this new chat.

Wow.

Before we couldn't even fix bugs- it was a terrible situation for us. I would feel so hopeless because we would get dozens of messages every day complaining about chat issues and there wasn't anything I could do about it.

If you have a suggestion, maybe a feature from the old chats that is missing or something new you would like to see incorporated into the new chat, just leave a comment and I promise we will consider it

More on Reputation

Posted November 26 2008 02:47 PM   Mood: Calm   Listening to: Juno Reactor

Feeling great after having a nice two-day break. Running Wireclub is way more than a full-time job - it is definitely more like 24/7 effort. Fortunately, this morning I had time to wrap-up and release a new version of our reputation system

I have to be honest, I like people that use Wireclub a lot way more than I like people that uses it bit less. It is just the way it is, nothing personal. The new reputation system now takes that in consideration - more you use the site, higher your reputation level will be.

In the future, we will be introducing several 'perks' based on how high your rank is. It is going to be great fun - well, at least if your rank is high enough

That is it - Userplane crossed the line this time

Posted November 20 2008 03:10 PM

I would like to share something with you all.

The company that manages the 'Classic' chat is now serving ads in that chat room that are simply not acceptable. They are deceitful, sneaky and they represent everything that is WRONG about internet marketing. Shame on you Userplane. You should know better.

I would like to apologize to our users for it. We will be removing that chat room soon if we cannot reach an agreement with Userplane regarding this issue.

I know a lot of you really like the Classic chat but at this point - there isn't much more we can do. If you want to keep the Classic chat online, make sure to send Userplane an angry message about those ads:

Help us test the new chat rooms!

Posted November 19 2008 07:00 PM

Ok, here is the deal. The new rooms are up for testing. They are still buggy and there are still many kinks to be worked out - nothing is final yet so don't freak out if you don't like what you see!

Just post your comments here and we will do whatever we can to make it better - promise!

If you find a problem, please send us a message so we can get it fixed

Software development explained

It is all about your Reputation

Posted November 15 2008 06:37 PM   Mood: Calm

With the new chat we are introducing a brand new Reputation system that will be added to everyone's profiles based on how they use the site and the chat rooms.

To begin with, there will be 5 times of reputation 'badges' a user can have:

Rookie: A Rookie is someone who has just joined out community. All new users will be Rookies for 20 days.

Dirty-Mouth: Just like I explained on my previous post, a Dirty-Mouth is someone who insists in saying inappropriate things while chatting on rooms clearly marked as for CLEAN chat only.

Creep: A Creep is a user that been voted as such by many and many users

Awesome Member: An Awesome Member is an user that is consistently nice to all other users, but particularly to Rookies.

Moderator: A Moderator is a former Awesome Member that was granted moderation privileges by the Admins - yes, you read it right!

That is it for now - stay tunned for my next post

New room creation options If you get the Creep badge, believe me, there was no conspiracy...

Features of the upcoming version of the Wireclub Chat

Posted November 14 2008 01:06 PM   Mood: Bouncy   Listening to: DI.fm - Chillout

The new chat is almost here so it is time to start talking about what makes it better than the current version

When you create a room on the new chat, you will be able to choose between 3 types of rooms:

Clean Chat: In a clean chat room, all 'bad' words are scrambled - good if you just can't stand foul language

Normal Chat: In this type of room, you can still say 'bad' words but people that abuse it will be tagged as "Dirty-Mouths" by the system. We will tell everyone they have a foul mouth and we will make so much fun of them - it will be hilarious.

Free Speech Chat: In this time of room, there is no censorship of moderation of any kind - people should enter at their own risk. Not for the easily offended

That is not all - when you create a room, you will be the 'master' of it. That is right, you can just kick people out if you don't like them

Tomorrow I will be posting about the new Reputation feature - stay tunned!

Trust me, you don't want to be tagged as a Dirty-Mouth by the new Chat system!

Improved messaging

Posted October 29 2008 11:59 AM   Mood: Calm   Listening to: DI.fm Chillout

Hi everyone,

It has been a while since my last post. We have been working hard on getting the new Wireclub chat ready - and it is now almost done

For now, we just released an improved version of our messaging system. I think it is much better than the old one but that would be up to you all to decide

I would love to hear your opinions/idea on it!

(Thanks BabyBlue85 for letting me use our conversation)

Explosive Growth

Posted October 5 2008 08:21 PM   Mood: Cheerful

Wireclub is growing so fast - this site is on fire and out of control!

Thank you so much for all the love - I am humbled and words simply can't express how fulfilling is to see the site being used by so many people. It is hard work but you all make it *so* worth it.

Lets work together to make Wireclub the definitive place to hang out and make new friends online. If you have a suggestion, please take a minute to post a comment describing it and we will try to implement it for you.

Oh and thanks for everyone that took their time to invite their real life friends to join the site using our invitation system - you guys/gals kick serious ass.

Ads, marketing and things I don't like

Posted September 30 2008 07:58 PM

I need to get something off my chest. I hate ads - with passion. Every time we had to add ads to the site to support our operations (it's pretty expensive to run a website as big as ours) I get pretty upset about it.

As you all can see, we have just added two new ad placements to our pages. One line of text at the top and one line of text at the bottom. We have tried to make it as subtle as possible but I cant help, I am upset about it anyway :/

I wonder if our awesome users could help us by letting us know: What kind of ads do you think are less 'intrusive'? How can we get around to pay our bills without upsetting everyone with flashy annoying ads?

Please let us know because WE CARE. We care so much I might not sleep for a few days now :/

Improving the Wireclub Chat

Posted September 10 2008 06:28 PM   Mood: Calm   Listening to: Eletronic Downtempo

Good news everyone!

We have decided our chat rooms aren't awesome enough. That is a problem because we want to provide our users with the best chat rooms EVER.

We are about to start working on it so if you have any suggestions, this is the perfect time to let us know!

(I mean it.)

Cool new feature: Status Updates

Posted September 3 2008 11:23 PM   Mood: Amused   Listening to: Foo Fighters

Ever wondered what your friends are up to? What if they are having more way fun than you are and you don't even know it? Isn't that a terribly unsettling feeling?

Worry no more! Now you can check out what your friends are up to using your Home page feed. Are they happy? Are they sad? Are they going out? So many questions answered in one fantastic page.

Yeah, I know. You love it.

WireClub: Now with more VIDEO

Posted August 26 2008 07:05 PM

Guess what?

Now you can add video to your blog or even to a message you are sending to a friend. All you need to do is to copy and paste a YouTube link and we will add a video player to your message/post

So cool, I can barely handle it

The Buzz

Posted August 22 2008 08:44 PM   Mood: Calm   Currently: Chillin'

We all have something to say. Now, we all have a place to do so on WireClub

The rules are simple, make a post to your blog and it might be featured on our new 'Buzz' page (Look up there, on the top of the page and you will find the link. If you can't find it, just try a little harder!)

If your post get picked up by our coolness-measuring robots, it will be visible to all other Wireclub members - yes, that is a LOT of people. So if you think you have something interesting to say, why don't give you a try? You might end up with a bunch of new friends!

Remeber, all you need to do is to post to your blog page. If your post does't get picked up - just try being cooler next time

Growing pains

Posted August 21 2008 02:28 PM   Mood: Ecstatic

Sometimes good things come with a fair share of issues to deal with. The fact is: WireClub is growing at a breakneck pace and sometimes it is hard for us to deal with all the consequences of that.

Some of you may be aware of the incident with the chat rooms last night... well, that is what happen when you try to pack too much 'awesome' into a website, a few things end up broken.

The good thing is that everything is now back to normal
