YouTube movies in your blog

New little feature for blogs - if you put a link to a youTube movie in your blog it will put the movie player right in. No I'm not going to give a demonstration, go try for yourself!

Spring Cleaning

You might have noticed the top of the page has changed a lot in the last few days, no it is not broken, we are removing the top header completely to make the page more compact and easier to use. As of today the page looks a little odd because the login box is still up there, finding it a new home is the next phase. On the home page the login box will probably move under the signup box and we will add a dedicated login page linked from the navigation bar. Of course we have to make sure people can still find it, it is harder than it looks to find an obvious place for it.

Lean & Mean

As part of the effort to improve the WireClub experience we are working on making the site faster all-around. It is hard to build a site that runs quickly, lots of challenges don't arise until you are really busy. We are starting with some of the simpler things so we can see an immediate improvement. Most of the things we are doing should be invisible but we will be simplifying a few things and getting rid of a few design elements. Overall the site should get cleaner and faster in the next few weeks.

People to meet

Meeting people on WireClub is easy but where do you get started? The great thing about a social networking site like WireClub is you only need one friend to get started building your network, from a single friend you can see all their friends and all their friends of friends. If you don't have any friends yet there should be a link on your home page to the friend finder tool, this will pair you up with someone else who used the friend finder. This is a great way to meet new people because you know you are both looking.

On your home page there is also a “People to meet” page that shows you random people each time you login. These are all people who have logged in recently so you don't end up messaging someone who is no longer active.

You can join or create clubs and meet people with the same interests as you, tell your friends about clubs you think they would be interested in so clubs become more popular and more people find out about it. When browsing someone's profile you can also check out what clubs and interests they have, this lets to get to know them a bit and see if it is someone you want to get to know better.

If you want a more advanced way to find people the search lets you search people by all kinds of options, almost all the parts of a person's profile are searchable. Find people from a certain city or people who are interested in the same thing you are!

There are tons of ways to meet people at WireClub, this is just the beginning, have fun!

Two years later

As I was putting the finishing touches on the blog archive you see on the sidebar of all blogs now I noticed I post I made Easter 2005. Wow has it really been more than two years? It's funny, the older you get it seems the faster time goes. Since I finished school and started working the years just fly by! Anyway since we have been around for a fairly long time now some people's blogs are getting very long and it is hard to find posts from a long time ago. The calendar on the top seemed like a great idea when there were only a few months of blogs but now it is almost useless to find anything. That is why we now show each month you have blog posts in, that should be a good solution, at least for a few more years

Oh and I almost forgot, we have also added a blog central where you can see featured bloggers, the top 10 bloggers and more! We are going to be expanding the page in the coming weeks so check back soon, once we have worked out the kinks there will be a "blogs" link on the top of the screen.
